Crush Pro 412 vs PPC 412

Post by satchmodog » Sun Jun 03, 2018 6:55 am

Anyone know of any A/B comps between these cabs, or any way to hear the difference between the VoTW speakers and the V30s? There is an absolute black hole of information on the Crush Pro cabs, other than shill reviews on Sweetwater and other sites.

How are customer reviews "shill reviews?"

I have a hard time believing or trusting that every damn review on every retail site is a 5 star review. I know people just love their gear and all, but I have seen far to many professional paid reviews for tools and instruments that I do not trust them. Not everything out there is simply awesome, the best ever, perfect etc...

I always read negative reviews, skipping most generic positive ones.

I do as well. I fully understand some negative interviews are just some unhappy turds complaining about a scratch on the cardboard shipping box or that some online retailer wouldn't give them 10% off for just being special, but those are easy to weed out. The negative reviews and the positive reviews with some criticism or shortcomings of the product are what I look for. When every review is simply 'this is the best product I've ever owned', it does me no good. I see reviews like that for Line 6 amps and for 90 dollar Fender bedroom amps and you know they're just a pantload.

Or maybe (and this is crazy, I know) people in bedrooms are just happy with their $90 Fender bedroom amps.

I had a look and the Crush 4x12 has 5 reviews on Sweetwater. It's a speaker cabinet, it's a wood box with speakers in it. It's really not hard for me to believe that 5 people bought it and thought it "sounded great." A direct comparison between the VOTW speakers and v30's that you asked for is totally reasonable and i'm sure someone out there has done it, but that doesn't mean a handful of good reviews are "shill reviews" just because those 5 people happened to be totally satisfied with it.

The best option of course is to find one and play one but getting both cabs back-to-back or setup with a head you like could be difficult to find. Those VOTW speakers are used in a few other Orange cabs/combos so you could try looking those up as well to see if there's more written about them.

The Crush 4x12 is a bit smaller isn’t it?

Yeah it's the same size as the PPC 4x12 Compact and a few inches smaller all around than the regular 4x12.

Yeah, I thought they discontinued the compact 4x12. I’d be looking online for comparisons between the compact and regular 4x12, likely to be more. Speakers in the Crush are different I know. I’ve heard mixed reviews on the VOTW speakers, but you get that with V30’s too.

It is an inch or two smaller and 10kg lighter than the PPC. Lighter weight tells me thinner wood and smaller magnets in most cases.

I should have just bought the 412 instead of the 212 to start off with.

I realize my tone may come across as harsh, but with what my wife does for a living, I see how product reviews are manipulated and so may times phony. People actually get paid for reviews, the process online is very dishonest and the sites themselves(especially amazon) manipulate a lot of content.

I have one of those crappy bedroom amps, the Crush 20 with the VoTW speaker in it and that is what leads me questioning tone. I think it sounds dreadful until I ran a jack out the back with a switch to run it off a 212, now it sounds amazing. So my question is does the VoTW speaker really sound that flat and bad, or is it simply because it's an 8 inch speaker, or both?

Unfortunately, no one around here stocks much Orange, aside from the amps and cabs I already own. I guess I can just order the thing and spend the 600. If I don't like it I am sure dumping it off locally for 500 wouldn't be too difficult.

I would lean more towards it being an 8” speaker that it sounds not so great. I’m not against small speakers, butbthey sound better in sets than singular. Also, those 8” VOTW speakers aren’t representative of the 12” ones or even the 10” ones. For all we know they’re a generic speaker with a label slapped on them, which is common.
I’m may be going on a limb saying this, but the Crush Pro 4x12 has everything it needs to be a great cab. It’s cheaper slso because it’s made in China, but so are the PPC112’s and they're great cabs.

I'm probably going to order it in a week or so. If I hate it, I can always sell it or use it for a night stand :)

The 10" and 12" version of the voice of the world speakers get great reviews. I've played through the 12", but couldn't directly compare it to the V30.

With an OR100 through the Jim Root cab (2 12" VOTW speakers), it was glorious.
I wanted to buy that OR100 really bad.

With the CR120 combo, I felt the overall package lacked a little articulation. Was it the amp? There certainly weren't any articulation issues with the OR100 and the same speakers.....!!!!

I own a CRPRO412.

It is a 5 star product, IMO. It’s as well built as a PPC but is smaller.

I have A/B’ed the two cabs. It has a little less low end and woofiness than the PPC, but seems to have better mid response, imo.

The VOTW speakers sound like V30’s to me. They have the same magnet size (50 oz ceramic), the same 1.75” voice coil, and what looks like the exact same cone.

Between the two I prefer the CRPRO412. Smaller size and negligible tonal difference from the PPC.

This was not a shill review.
