Finally managed to try out a CR120....

And, of course, I was very impressed!!!!

I own a Rockerverb it's modelled on, and they are very similar in many ways.
Unfortunately, I tried the 212 combo version, and the amp lacked somewhat in articulation - for the moment, I'll put that down to the speakers, as it's something I've experienced before in all amps with budget speakers. Can't be sure though.

I can't say it sounds as good as my RV50- but it still sounds fantastic, and really close to it. The clean channel doesn't get quite so crunchy fully wound up, but with the master volume, you can more easily get some slight hair from it at manageable volume.

All in all, I was VERY impressed. Really great amp. Would make a RV back up at a fraction of the cost. I would very happily gig with it, or own it!!!

Impressive work by Orange, best SS amp I've ever heard.

Try a clean boost into the clean channel. Works for me! Got a good crunch out of it with a TC Spark Booster. Its a lot brighter than the gain channel that way.

The speakers are actually great. Much like V30’s in both tone and the need for breaking in. They’re practically V30 clones; 50 oz mags, 1.75” voice coil, 60 Watts, etc. They’re not cheap by any means, IMO.

I’ve never tried the combo but own a CR120H and CRPRO412, as you probably already know. It’s incredible for what I play and sounds better than a lot of tube amps out there. I love mine!

I've got enough amps as it is, so i won't get to try that I'm afraid. I'm sure it would work though.

I must say that when I tried the OR100 through a #4 PPC212 cab (with voice of the world speakers), I was pretty impressed with the OR100 and didn't think it lacked clarity at all.

:?

So what was lacking clarity? The CR120? Certainly, compared to my RV50 MKI (or any other amp I own) I thought the single string articulation with the dirty channel could be better.

Could be a difference in pickups. I find the single string articulation to be quite good. I have an SG Standard with stock 490/498.
