As most know, it’s not really an attenuator.
But anyhow, it seems to only be useful to 11:00 on the dial, after that the sound degrades as you bring it up (down).
I run the channel volume at 2:00, just for reference.

Technically, it is an attenuator, just not a power soak type.

Re: Orange “Attenuator” thoughts...
I don't find that much sound degradation on mine (older TV50), but the speakers certainly don't color the sound nearly as much as if they were REALLY working. that much is absolutely true.
There is a slight coloration of the tone when you get around noon on the dial, but I only notice it on higher gain settings. I don't really notice anything at all if I have the gain south of 2:00...
And honestly, again, I would chalk most of that up to the differences in how the speaker colors the tone. It works fabulously, IMO, and it's THE reason that my TV50 gets played more than all my other amps combined.

Same. My 100 watt RV is easier to control for bedroom playing than my 30 watt TH30.Dark Helmet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 04, 2018 3:55 pmit's THE reason that my TV50 gets played more than all my other amps combined.
It does sound better with actual volume but as stated, I am certain most of that is speaker related.

Technically.
Re: Orange “Attenuator” thoughts...
I guess what I’m saying is this:
I’d rather have my channel volume at 12:00 and the attenuator at 10:00 than have the channel volume at 3:00 and the attenuator at 1:00.
Either way is loud, but I hear a difference with the attenuator past noon.

Re: Orange “Attenuator” thoughts...
I would expect it to sound different because the phase inverter and power tubes are being driven differently in each scenario. Gives you more tonsl options I guess.
Re: Orange “Attenuator” thoughts...
And personally, I’d prefer to have my channel volume at 1:30-2:00 and the attenuator at 7:00.
But the PA guys will cry.

Re: Orange “Attenuator” thoughts...
I have the DD50, but I find that 70/30 (attennuator/volume) is the best. Combine that with careful gain adjustment and you've got a winner.
Re: Orange “Attenuator” thoughts...
How would you compare the DD to the RV ?
