Are these the most beautiful Juniors you've ever seen?

Post by bclaire » Wed Feb 14, 2018 2:50 am

Gibson Custom Shop has made two special Les Paul Jr.'s for Johnny A.

Back and front contours, and look at those neck joints! All handmade - hand sanded - no orbital sanders. One weighs in at 5 lb 10 oz, the other 5 lb 11 oz! Brazilian rosewood fingerboards, too.

From Johnny:

Gibson Custom Les Paul Jrs I had custom built for me. Inspired by my work with The Yardbirds, I wanted a "super" comfortable Jr., and with the help of Phillip Whorton and the artistry of Master builder Matthew Klein who worked with me on designing the "Johnny A." Model I am beyond blown away by the results...a true rock 'n' roll weapon. Looking forward to putting them through their paces on this year's upcoming Yardbirds' tours!!

The neck joint is really sexy. Very interesting twist over the traditional Gibson neck joint.

Very sweet!!!!

Lovely looking axes. I'd like to try one. A shame there's no neck pick up though.

Pretty irrelevant really.
The guitars is nice or not.

For what it's worth..... he's a wonderful player.... in a style I do not care for.

The guitar is really nice though.

I'm not a fan of belly cut guitars. Not really into that heel shape either. Also, it doesn't have neck binding, which I love.

I had a 2005 CS LP Special 1960 single cut in TV yellow that was an amazing guitar. I prefer that one aesthetically.

Those are pretty damn amazing looking and im sure they are as sweet to play as well. I really really wish i had a

Junior of some kind. Perhaps someday a Gordon Smith Double Cut with a single P90 - someday

Gibson quality control. Couldn't even get 'em the same colour

They look really nice. I'm sure it was Johnny A's choice but I'd have specified just a little more neck angle.

Everything about them was JA's choice! ha ha ha... if you look closely, you'll see no little ledge where the neck joins the body on the treble side like regular Juniors do - nice and smooth....

They look really nice to me.
Interesting that Gibson made the smoothed in neck joint and belly cut. (there is a US clone co that makes Burst replicas and kits with those?).
I had a double cut Special made with be belly cut (but normal neck contour) and I spec'd two BKP p90s. Rocking guitar as I suspect both those are.
