NAD tomorrow

Post by Justrightinmaine » Sun Jan 28, 2018 10:51 pm

New to the forum. My RV100 MK III will be here tomorrow. Hoping my eternal search for tone is over. Had a Rocker 30 ten years ago that I regret selling. Been on Mesa, Marshall, Blackstar (Series 1 and HT) path and the best of the bunch has been the Blackstar HT 100. Will gig with the Orange next Saturday. Wish me luck.

Nice! I just picked up an R30 a few weeks ago and its easily one of the best amps Ive ever owned and Ive owned dozens. Fender, Marshall, Vox, Orange, Egnater etc...have you thought about getting a used R30? I lucked out and got mine for $550!

You didn’t want to wait for the 50th anniversary OR122?

If the RV doesn’t work out I might look for a R30 but would be supremely bummed if the RV isn’t everything I expect it to be. In fact it better be!! Lol

You've played the RV right? So you know it doesn't really sound like an R30 at all. I don't care for the RV amps at all but lots of people like them.

Make sure to inspect the amp through the vents on the top and back to make sure there are no wires touching the tubes. I don't want to be that guy but you should definitely make sure everything looks good before you power it on for the first time. I'm a two-time RV loser.

What wires are you talking about? The reverb?

I believe he's talking about a rogue wire that was touching a tube - highly unlikely to of happened again.

Got the RV but haven’t unpacked yet. Will do so on Friday. Played it at GC and liked it. Can’t remember if it sounded like the Rocker 30 or not because it was so long ago. Bottom line for me is that nothing matters sound wise until I play in a band situation. Can sound great at home then like ass when playing live (and vise versa). Looking forward to gigging with it this weekend.

**note - peaked in the box and saw no wires touching tubes 👍

You never know. I acquired two duds from Orange within 3 months of each other. I figured its better to be safe than sorry.

Gigged with her last night for the first time and tone was pure bliss. Honestly it was much more modern sounding than I thought it would. I dig that it was difficult to make sound bad. I boosted the mid control quite a bit on the dirty channel and really cut through the mix nicely. Kept the gain at about 1:00 and just rolled back the LP volume to clean it up a bit but still retained great tone. Clean channel was so much better than I remember the clean channel on the Rocker 30. Two different animals. Definite keeper.

Now I need to get the PPC412 to complete the look... it just doesn’t look right sitting atop a Marshall 4x12.

I have serous tinnitus this morning and a crazy headache - signs of a great night. I guess now it’s time to take care of this hang over with some hair of the dog and get ready to watch my Eagles win!
