Hi guys,
This is my first post here and looking for a little advice.
My daughter has been playing an orange rocker 30 combo for some time and absolutely loves it, absolutely slays everything else we have tried. We loved this amp so much that we got a rocker 30 head in black but here’s my question-
We’re pairing the head with a Marshall 1936 2x12 cab and although it sounds good it’s not quite up there with the combo. We also seem to be getting abit more gain from the combo.
Do you guys think if we put it through an orange 2x12 can it will reach its full potential?
Thanks in advance

Try plugging the combos speaker into the head and see how it sounds. There are no circuit differences between the combo and head. Tubes could be a factor.

Re: Rocker 30 head advice
The Marshall cab has G12T75 speakers.
Very different to the V30 in the combo.
Once you've tried what jondog suggested, I assume you will realise that.
You dont necessarily need to buy the Orange cab, you can also change the speakers in the Marshall cab.

Re: Rocker 30 head advice
Assuming everything's is good with the head yes getting a 212 open back orange cab will sound excellent, worn V30s do sound excellent with orange amps imo and they are the most commonly used speaker by Orange in their cabs.
Do combos sound better than their head versions ? .....that's a highly debated topic !!
The impressionn of more gain could be the tubes or difference speakers or number of them.

Re: Rocker 30 head advice
What Ant said above...it's mainly the G12T75 speakers in that Marshall cab. A pair of V30s would sound much better. I'd buy them used (i.e. already broken in and cheaper than new).
Open back vs closed back also makes a difference. Closed back cabs tend to cancel out some midrange, so that's also a part of what you're missing there.

Re: Rocker 30 head advice
Thanks for all the help guys. I managed to pick up a year old orange 2x12 cab in black to match the head and it sounds awesome. These are just amazing amps, I picked up the combo 18 months ago for £250 which is just nuts but I’ve noticed the prices are are really going up lately. They kill every other amp we’ve owned including a rockerverb. I have to say that there is something truly special about the combo

the head and combo are exactly the same. did you play the black head through the combo's speaker as well to compare? Just curious if you did and if that made them sound virtually the same.

I gotta tell you, my Marshall 1936 cab loaded with Vintage 30's is probably the best sounding cab I own. I know you bought the Orange cab, but if you're planning on keeping the 1936, consider loading it with V30's sometime in the future...
