Is this a good deal for this Rocker 30?

Went and played this last week and it sounded great, in pretty good condition too. Pawn shop wanted $650 for it but I talked them down to $600 out the door. Seems these are going between $750-$900 online plus tax and/or shipping. $600 seems too good to pass up. Thoughts? Anything to look for on it?

I am still having second thoughts about it as we are only playing small to medium sized venues and we will be running everything thru a PA, so my OR15 should be just fine. I'm thinking this deal is too good to pass up though.

The jewel light isn't original.
What colour does it light up?

It looks a little dirty, but much less dirty than mine when I got it. Are the nicks on the back the only nicks It has?

When I got mine, it cleaned right up with vigorous wiping with..... baby wipes. These things clean up most things, pretty amazing!!!

To elaborate on my reply, for $600, you could probably flip it for a bit of profit if you don’t like it. Thats providing it functions perfectly fine.

So I just got it home and opened it up! I have no idea what Im looking at really, Im assuming those are the stock tubes? Hope the rust over on the right isn't an issue. Cleaned all the dust off. Sounds great!

6CA7’s which were stock in some models. Not sure if EHX was the stock brand they use, but nice tubes regardless. Demeter transformers made in UK which are very good. Kind of strange the serial number is rubbed off. Nice score, congrats!!

Thanks! Yea, EHX were the stock brand from what the research I did says. I really love how they sound compared to the standard EL34. Was considering some JJs but I'm going to order a fresh set of the EHs now that I've had the chance to play them a bit today. I agree that is strange about the serial number but coming from a pawn shop, who the hell knows haha. he said they have had it about a year. It was still tagged at $899 but they dropped it to $650 a few months ago and I got them to do $600 cash out the door. Receipt says $551.72 plus the tax. So yea, Im stoked for that price! After playing t back to back with my OR15 for the last hour, I can really tell a difference I couldn't tell from 15 minutes in the pawn shop thru an inferior cab to my Orange 2x12. I love my OR15 but the R30 is considerably better. Its also built much better, all the way down to the input and speaker jacks feeling very sturdy and solid and no clanking sounds when plugging in like I get on the OR. Just feels much more solid and well built.

The serial being rubbed off indicates it was most likely stolen at some point. :(

What you see on the transformer I don't think is rust, but some sort of wax/varnish.

Let me know how you like the new power valves!!!!

I think I'm gonna go on and order an fx loop for mine.

Love it, but I find that clean channel really needs reverb.

Thanks! Now that I look at the back of other R30s, I think the serial number may have came off naturally. Look at this pic. It looks like its done in some kind of ink from a marker almost. Its not printed on like the rest of the info, so I would imagine that can wear off rather easily over the years.

Im loving the tubes! Big fan of the EHX 6CA7s now! Need to order a new set. By the way, where do the preamp tubes sit in this thing?

Yes, the serials are hand written..... but they usually stay on. Especially in that recess on valve heads - you have to go in there to rub it off.

A scuff could happen, but not a full rub off unless it's intentional. Highly unlikely.

I have an old AD15 that has kept it's serial, and that is sitting on the back panel of the combo. I move that amp regularly, the serial is there, waiting to be scratched, it isn't recessed, and it's still there, intact.

Yea thats true, ah well. I assume the preamp tubes are located over to the right by the transformer? How easy is it to get in there to change them?
