Orange Rocker 15 with PPC112 cabinet
Hi.
I was thinking of adding an Orange PPC112 cabinet to my Orange Rocker 15 combo. There is not one in my area to test out so asking about sound here.
I'm guessing the sound will be different then what I have now because:
The combo is open back and has a Voice of the World Gold Label 10" speaker with 101dB sensitivity.
The cabinet is closed back and has a Celestion Vintage 30 12" speaker with 100dB sensitivity.
Anyone try this out that can give me some feedback?
Thanks!

OK, I have not tried it with an Orange cabinet, but with a single 12" Mojotone cab loaded with a Mesa MC90. It was pretty surprising how much volume and how big it sounded. The new Rocker 15 punches WAY above it's weight.

If you can swing a touch more I would suggest the PPC212OB. Just a bit more cash but a way WAY better/bigger sound. IMO the PPC112 is overpriced for what it is.

I was thinking of adding a mesa cab to mine with either 1 or 2 vintage 30s. I know I can't run it at the same time as the internal speaker. I will need to disconnect it to avoid an impedance issue. Will going this route add some fullness to the sound or will it take away the orange sound?

As long as you get a 16 ohm cab, you can use it along with the combo's speaker.ericpanetta wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2017 3:06 pmI was thinking of adding a mesa cab to mine with either 1 or 2 vintage 30s. The two 8 ohm jacks are in parallel. You can use them for one 8 ohm or two 16 ohm. Unplug the combo speaker from the single 16 ohm jack, plug it into one of the 8 ohm jacks, plug a 16 ohm ext cab into the other 8 ohm jack.
Vintage 30's complement the Orange sound very well.

Re: Orange Rocker 15 with PPC112 cabinet
I'm thinking I should get an 8 ohm cab though since most quality heads will only run off that impedance. Are you saying the internal speaker of the rocker 15 can also run at 8 ohms?
Re: Orange Rocker 15 with PPC112 cabinet
Many many quality heads run multiple impedances. In general 16 ohms gives the most versatility (at least with British type amps).
The internal speaker alone can only be plugged into the 16 ohm jack.
But when used with a 16 ohm extension, those two loads in parallel give an 8 ohm total load. Just like your amp's manual explains.

Sorry, my closing comment may have sounded snotty, especially since I'm unsure if Orange includes paper manuals with their higher end amps (they don't with the Micros).
Manuals for all their products are available on their website as PDF downloads.
On the Rocker 15 page there's a "downloads" link. Click it then select the Rocker 15 manual.

Re: Orange Rocker 15 with PPC112 cabinet
This is a bit off topic, but have any of you other Rocker 15 owners swapped out the Voice of the World speaker for something else? I was thinking of swapping mine with a Celestion G10 Vintage, which, according to some reviews, is similar to the Vintage 30. I love my Rocker 15, just wasn't too impressed with the Voice of the World speaker.

Same here, wasn't impressed when I did the R32/R30 shootout. Maybe it's all in my head since I'm not used to seeing a non C equipped amp much these days, or maybe it's because they were not broken in yet. I would be interested to hear the thoughts on a swap.
Re: Orange Rocker 15 with PPC112 cabinet
I'm going to order one when I get paid on Friday. I will post some feedback and possibly some clips after I swap it.

I just ordered a WGS ET-10 to try and will post after I get it installed and broken in.jlpete87 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 3:07 pmThis is a bit off topic, but have any of you other Rocker 15 owners swapped out the Voice of the World speaker for something else? i find using the PPC112 is a great balance to the OB style of the combo.. with the R30 this gives both weight and openness so its a great upgrade, sure you will love it on your R15 too

TheJay, a member here, did a shoot out video between the R30 through V30 and R32 with V30 too. They sounded near identical.Boy_Narf wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2017 4:12 pmSame here, wasn't impressed when I did the R32/R30 shootout. 10" speakers are very different from 12" speakers typically.
