Modded my OR15
Haven't been here in a while but figured you guys would like to see this one.
We all know the OR15 & Jim Root are essentially the same amps, with only a few different components that make them sound different. So I had my tech install a switch that allows me to toggle between the two voicings. It came out great!

You have to be a member of the Marshall forum to see the picture. Doesn't appear...
Re: Modded my OR15
What exactly are the differences and how do they affect the tone? In other words, we need a video demo.

Re: Modded my OR15
That doesn't tell us much. Could just be an unconnected switch.

Re: Modded my OR15
He likely doesn't know what the switch does, seeing as a tech did the work.
I haven't seen a #4 schematic floating around online, but it supposedly has the same pre-amp as the Rockerverb 50. If that's the case, the slope resistor and TS treble cap values are different, and the 3rd stage cathode resistor is different.

Re: Modded my OR15
Thanks. I've never played through a #4 and on Youtube they sound exactly like an OR15 to me, but I always figured there had to be some differences.fiveightandten wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 2:11 amHe likely doesn't know what the switch does, seeing as a tech did the work.

Re: Modded my OR15
Exactly. We compared the OR15 schematic to the #4 schematic and found there are 3 components that make the OR15 and #4 sound slightly different. The switch toggles between those components.fiveightandten wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 2:11 amHe likely doesn't know what the switch does, seeing as a tech did the work.

I don't have a video of the modded OR15 yet but I do have a video that compares the tone of each amp.Sootio wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 10:46 amThanks. They sound different to me, thats why I wanted the mod done.

You wouldn't be the first. It's your amp and if your getting something out of it, that's all that matters.acidvoodoo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 4:11 pmYes, thats exactly what I did, drilled a hole in my amp for no reason.
Re: Modded my OR15
Good video! I definitely hear a difference, I think I like the OR15 and its open tone, the #4 sounds more compressed and modern. If I had both I think I'd get an AB switch and run them both, one clean the other dirty, or one rhythm the other lead. Cool amps!acidvoodoo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 6:46 pmI don't have a video of the modded OR15 yet but I do have a video that compares the tone of each amp.Sootio wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 10:46 amThanks. Re: Modded my OR15
Thanks man! To me "open or wide" better describes the #4 in the room...I tried to capture the tone difference in this short clip I recorded last night. It was recorded on an iPhone so probably sounds best listening through one. Let me know what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MJ-MCF1FnIpedecamp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 2:21 pmGood video! I couldn't tell any difference through youtube, I don't have an iPhone.acidvoodoo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 4:05 pmThanks man!
