Hello guys,
Lately I have become a big fan of Orange amps for their combination of full tone and portability.
I am considering one of these amps (Rocker 15 and OR15).
Locally (I live in Athens,Greece) I have been able to to try only the Rocker 15.
Features aside, I am interested in the differences in the voicing of the mid/high gain between the two models.
From videos I figure that the Rocker is more vintage voiced while the OR15 can become more saturated and perhaps has more top end bite.
Anyone here that has played on both?

Orange Rocker 15 vs OR15

Re: Orange Rocker 15 vs OR15
I guess the question is if you want a combo or a head/cab setup. I tried the new rockers and was not impressed. I would go for the OR15 simply so I could match it with the cab of my choosing. I don't really like/understand the Orange branded speakers "yet". Would much rather run an OR15 through a PPC212OB if you have the budget for it.
Re: Orange Rocker 15 vs OR15
Thanks for the reply but actually I asked for a tone comparison as amps regardless of speaker configuration.
Re: Orange Rocker 15 vs OR15
No need to be sassy friend.
I'm saying any amp through a budget 10" speaker will sound nothing like an amp through a proper cabinet. The OR15 will always sound better as you will have to get a cabinet for it. Evening running the OR15 through a VOTW 12" would most likely sound better. Now if you are planning to run the R15C through a separate cabinet then we have a debate on our hands.
THEJAY! I think has both of these amps. I'm sure he will chime in shortly.

Re: Orange Rocker 15 vs OR15
Thejay used to have the OR15 and now has a R32.
To be honest, as Boy_Narf pointed out, the speaker choice, and the fact the R15 is only available as a combo, with a speaker you can't buy yet without that combo, makes direct comparison near impossible.
The characteristics of the speaker used will have (say the combo 10" speaker versus a PPC112 with V30) as much difference as the amps themselves have if not more.
Few (no one???) people have reported using the R15 with an external cab yet.
Thejay, as mentioned earlier, has done a comparison of his R32 and R30 through V30 cabs:
https://youtu.be/3ij3Gc5PXSs
Then he also did a comparison between the R30 with V30 and R32 with voice of the world speakers.
https://youtu.be/ScuJ7TiOcow
So you know have 2 variables.....
All you need to find is a another well recorded comparison with the OR15.
That's why Boy_Narf was saying it pretty hard to tell....
Best recommendation is for you to try them both. It isn't always feasable though.
For what it's worth, I've tried the Voice of the world 12" speakers and was pretty impressed with them. I expect the 10" to be pretty good too - just different properties to 12" speakers.

Re: Orange Rocker 15 vs OR15
I dislike V30 speakers, however I do like voice of the world speakers.
So I expect that I would prefer even the 1x10 voice of the world to a 1x12 V30 cab.
This 1x10 voice of the world can sound fuller than some 12 inch speakers, so I do not dismiss the combo just because of speaker size.

10" speakers are fine, it's just that some of their characteristics are very different. As a generalisation, 10" = more top end, less low end, and a speaker that actually cuts through the mix a bit better. 12" are fuller sounding, have more low end and express lower mids better.
Having tried the Voice of the world 12" speaker, I would certainly consider it - it sounds great, contrary to some budget celestion speakers I have tried. I expect the 10" to be good too. The 12" was great with clean, and kept great nite definition and articulation with a dirty OR100 - that's usually where cheap speaker fall apart, they start mushing.

Both are fine amps either way. The decision is if you need 1 or 2 channels, and do you prefer head or combo. And that's it!
