Cable Confusion!! Unshielded shielded!!

Post by MacPark » Sat Sep 30, 2017 10:14 am

Heya,

I have an or50 and wanna hook it up to an ppc412. The book says to use an unshielded cable. How come so many speaker cables like planet waves etc state they are shielded? What cable should I use?? I would have thought you just bought a speaker cable but im guessing not now. I am confused as hell.

Cheers, Mac

The Planet Waves cable is great. The terms being used aren't exactly explained. Basically, don't use instrument cable. What Planet Waves might be referring to as a sheild is actually a filter around the two conductors which are negative and positive. Instrument cable has one conductor and the sheild which also serves as ground.

Dedicated guitar cable for guitar; specialized speaker cable to connect amp to speakers. Speaker cables are unshielded - a guitar cable would affect the impedance if used as a speaker cable.
