foot-switch doesn't light-up... (AD50)

Post by Dark Helmet » Tue Aug 29, 2017 8:26 pm

I seem to remember a "how to fix a footswitch that doesn't light up" article/post... but can't seem to find it.

I seem to recall it being a minor/easy fix, but can someone help a brother out here....

AD30s both worked fine, and I've tried 3 switches with the AD50, and no-bueno....

So few people have the AD50, it's probably the best option to contact them.

Hi Dark Helmet

I think I posted the original post about this some years ago. There was some conjecture as to what actually constitutes a footswitch "lighting up" but from memory I think the issue is this.

The AD50 circuit doesn't provide enough power to light the footswitch alone. Some footswitches when engaged will faintly light up in response to you hitting the guitar strings. Quite weird and impractical. Basically you need a powered footswitch with the AD50 if you want a functioning LED. I bought an aftermarket one from MC-FX here on Australia, but even then, I had to have Michael the builder reverse something inside to make the switch function correctly. I use that on my board. When I couldn't be bothered plugging in the pedal board I sometimes just use an old Fender vintage style one button non-LED switch.

If this is allowed, this is the type of switch I have (tho mine is the powered long skinny one).
