How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
Hi everyone, I would like to know if someone owns or tested the Rocker 15 ?
I'm really curious about the bedroom switch.
Thanks :p

Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
I don't have a R15, but have had a TT for years now. I NEVER run it on the 7 watt mode, it's just too thin wounding. I can't imaging the 1 watt on the R15 sounding all the great. Even at 15 watts I can turn it low enough not to wake anyone in the next room, and still get a good tone. If you do need something extremely quiet I would just look into something like Amlitube for your late night practising, and save the tube amp for normal volume sessions. Another option could be a CR60. Decent tone at all volumes (including whisper quiet), plus more features and less maintenance than a tube amp. Maybe worth a look.
I did sample the R32 a few weeks back and wasn't a fan.

I believe a recent new forum member bought one and was using it mostly in 1w setting and reported being very happy with it.
I haven't had the opportunity to try it out myself.

Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
I have one and it's brilliant in all the wattage forms. Nobody seems to mention what a superb clean channel it has also. The effects loop is very transparent and takes pedals really well. I have owned many tube amps from Fender. Marshall, Blackstar. Laney etc and without doubt this is the best. I also owned a Tiny Terror and this is far superior. Hope this helps.
Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
Yeah, I own every 50th anniversary Marshall amps and even the CSJTM145 from Anderton's.
I really plan to buy my first Orange amp and that full 15w with a 15/7/1/0.5w is interesting for sure.

I really like the one I played in a store. The only thing that kept me from buying it was that I already own an OR15 and there's a lot of overlap, although the rocker 15 has a lot more going on!
Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
Can we guess that Orange will release a head version of that amp one day ?

Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
A number of people hope so.
Whilst the R15 would make sense in a head format, the R32 is more difficult to pull off as it is a stereo amp.

Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
I love my R15, I'm using it with a ppc112 so effectively a 1x10 on top of a 1x12 and to me it sounds awesome.
I've had a R30 in the past which was a great amp but definitely needed turning up to hit the sweet spot, the R15 doesn't seem to suffer from this and although best in the full fat 15 watt mode the power scaling is very useable.
Even in 15 watt mode with the master set low I seem to get better results than I could manage with the R30, and it has an effects loop!
Incidentally, a good friend of mine uses a tiny terror and the R15 would certainly be my choice of the two, a much more versatile amp.

Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
I went to my local dealer this afternoon and I was able to try those :
- Rockerverb 50w MKIII
- Jim Root #4
- Dark Terror
- Rocker 15
Man, I must say that this little Rocker 15 was something. The clean tone is really good, the dirty channel is as good as the clean channel but with a 3 bands EQ if you want.
I tested everything with that amp, the 7w mode, the bedroom switch(1w and 0.5w).
I think that the key for that amp is the speaker and the attenuator. I don't know how they did that, but even with that 10' speaker, there's bass and you can hear that it's a 101db speaker. Even at 1w or 0.5w, it can be loud. I don't know how they did the attenuator, but it doesn't suck the tone, it's only quiet and I think that the 0.5w is the key. 0.1w is way too quiet for a bedroom amp, at least with 0.5w, you have a great tone and that's it.
I checked the built quality, everything was top notch on the unit that I tested.
On a side note, I tested the Rockerverb 50w MKIII and it's a loud amp. The attenuator is a nice feature on that amp.

Yes, the RV50 is capable is pushing some serious air. Great amp.
So, how long before you're a happy R15 owner????

Re: How good is the Orange Rocker 15 ?
A friend of mine started a few months back to look for a good low wattage tube amp to plug in his 16 Gibby LP Std.
He asked me for advice. I warned him that I was literally obsesed with Orange, but that I would give him what I think are other pretty valid options from other brands.
Last weekend he came to me and told me that he didn't want to let pass another week without finally choosing one.
In the end the race was between:
Marshall DSL5
Fender Blues jr.
And the Rocker15.
I went with him to the stores and played for him trough those amps.
Well the DSL is a nice little monster but not at low volumes.
What can I say about the Blues jr. we all know it, some love it. I certainly do.
But he wanted something for home use.
The jr. could work but again it's much nicer cranked. So he would have to buy a nice overdrive pedal.
And then the R15...
Plugged in my Std. Tele with 51 nocaster pu's, on clean full power....
Fell in love intantly.
My bud loved it too.
With vol on max it was beautifully dirty and jeez....really loud! Quite surprised with the WOTW Gold, both volume and soundwise.
Tried it on half power still nice.
Switched to bedroom...nope.
Works but started to miss some goodness.
Same experience I made long ago with my TH30 at least to my ears, I like it on full power with low vol better than attenuated.
Back to full and over to the dirt.
Now this is where it wins the race against the other two versatility.
From a little crunchy to really thick and heavy everything sounded nice.
Responds well with the eq and also to your picking.
Could be even used as a mono channel. My bud was pretty surprised when I first started to play clean on the dirt channel, dialed out some mids and it was lovely.
After that I gave it more gain and backed off some vol.
From that point on I started to work only with my guitars controlls.
Cleaned up wery well and really touch responsive, he was impressed and I fell in love.
Awesome bluesy tones in that little box.
Ade did it again, and even at low volumes it does sound good.
Like I said before half power still works for me but bedroom not so much.
The only downside for me is that it has no built in reverb.
But because I already knew I took my EHX Cathedral with me.
Worked perfectly like I expected.
I also plugged a 17 LP Trad that the salesguy gave me but it was a turd.
Looked awesome but did't feel good and the setup was pure horror.
Pickups were so close to the strings that playing clean and with dynamics was almost impossible.
But Im sure mine or his LP's would have sounded glorious.
So guess what amp he just ordered with black tolex?
