Can 6550 tubes be used in a rocker 30 without modification? I have heard alot of good stuff about 6550's
If not what all can be used without mods - 6ca7, Kt77,???

6CA7 and KT77 can be swapped without modification. 6550 would need a rebias which is changing resistor values.
Re: 6550 in Rocker 30
what would people prefer from 6ca7 to kt77 vs el34
Re: 6550 in Rocker 30
I've used them all. KT77 was my least favorite. Love 6CA7's, a fatter sounding EL34. EL34's will probably cut through in a mix better though.

Also love the (JJ) 6CA7 in the Rocker 30. Mine came with them stock.
Don't think those JJs are exactly typical sounding 6CA7s though, so can't comment on others. But these ones really do give the amp some proper grunt.
Andy.
