Buying used?

Post by 93studiolite » Tue Jul 11, 2017 8:46 pm

Hello all,

This is my first post here. I'm wanting to pick up a CR60C and noticed that GC has a few used ones on their website. Are there any issues that I should be aware of if I decide to buy used or for the little bit more is it just better to buy new? Thanks.

You never really know what you'll get until it gets there. But, from a place like that they more than likely accept returns if you're not happy. I've bought used from online dealers like musciansfriend and music123, only ever recall sending one thing back which was a Blackstar HT-5 that wouldn't switch channels properly.

If you can work a good deal on new, get new. Most of the time you get a ship warranty and manufacturer at that point.

Otherwise I think I have more "used" gear than new at this point, just have to ask questions and know what you are buying.

Thanks guys. I've mostly read positive reviews for this amp, but there were a few folks that don't care for them. I like the sounds that I hear people getting online, but I know that doesn't translate over to real life very well all the time. I don't have any local Orange dealers other than the small GC here and they only have an OR15 and a CR20.

I guess it's good sign that they only have a hand full of used 60's in their online system.

Ask at your local GC what the return policy is for used gear bought online - I'd have it shipped to the store so you can deal with it all there plus if it gets messed up in shipping, they will have signed for it...

That's actually a good idea to have it shipped to the store. I think I read somewhere that there is a 24 day return period for used items at GC, but I'm not positive about that. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow.

I buy used all the time, usually from GC. You can return used gear usually up to 30 days. No need to get it shipped to store. I've had guitars, many amps, and 4x12s shipped to my home and never experienced any damage.

GC is an EXCELLENT source of used gear..

order online and delivered to your home, and return to the local store if not satisfied.. it really doesnt get any better than that.

I buy used stuff all the time... from individuals.

From individuals, you must make sure you try it well before you walk away with it.
I've only had a couple of issues.

The issues I've had so far were scratchy pots on the 1st guitar I didn't plug in before to go away with it (eBay deal, managed a satisfactory partial refund), and with an amp, at high volume the speaker cone rattled against the speaker's internal wire. I shortened those and everything was fine.

But as mentioned by other users above, it may be worthwhile buying from a big shop with a good return policy on used items. It can be worth the extra you pay for.
