Make sure it's wired like this:

Thank you for that! I'll try to screw off the back plate and see if I can compare with that. Much appreciated.

I still haven't gotten around to opening up my 412 but look at this old post from the Technical forum:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12313

They seem to be describing my same problem and it looks like bad, out of phase wiring has been pretty common with Orange cabs.

Let's just hope that it is that, because that's a bery easy problem to solve.

If it is that..... your pain will have been worthwhile. Getting a new RV MKIII for the price of a b stock MKII is a pretty good deal!!! Fingers crossed for You!!! Open it up and keep us updated!!!

Thanks, man. I hope it is that simple even though part of me will still be pissed I lived with it this long. And I did actually pay the difference for the MKIII 100. And also, I have to say that as much as I've tweaked the knobs, every time I have to settle on a notch, I get a little angry. I just can't believe they put training wheels on this amp. Its really unsettling to not have minute control over where the pot gets set. Especially on the EQ but ESPECIALLY on the gain knob. Its really maddening.

I'm hoping to look inside today after work.

Ah, I see.

Well let's pray it works anyway and that it is the issue!

I kind of like the notches. I find myself trying to replicate settings with no luck. Would be nice if I could just clikclickclick my way to tonal bliss!

I appreciate your affinity but turning those knobs makes me welcome nuclear winter. Between that and the mid knob being absent from the clean channel, I feel like they might as well cut my hands off. We'll see if I still feel that way if the cabinet phase issue proves to be what is wrong with my tone and gets fixed.

So prying the back off a PPC412 feels like an impossible feat. Got any tips for doing it without destroying the tolex?

Unscrew and remove the jack panel and pull from there. Do not use anything to pry or you will rip the tolex.

I managed to get to get it off by unscrewing the handle and banging it out from the inside.

So I'm not sure I can really compare this to the diagram posted on the last page. Does anyone see anything that looks weird? Seems like there are too many wires here:

I did some checking and don't see anything that matches your wiring diagram. I think something funky is going on there. I'll keep looking!

Thank you for looking. Yeah, it looks overdone to me just based on the little research I've done.

Actually I think you are missing a wire!

http://music-electronics-forum.com/atta ... rallel.jpg

Flip that upside down and you will see what I mean. The top orange cable should be going to the bottom, and there should be another one doing the same on the right side. I think anyway :S

Anyone else confirm? I don't have much experience wiring cabs.

In all honestly I would unhook every cable and rewire it following the diagram.

I think I'm starting to understand the wiring discrepancy but I don't want to do anything until I get a couple of back up opinions.

What ohms are your speakers?

I'm not convinced the wiring diagram were looking at would give you 16ohms if replicated in your cab.
