Question: OBC410 paired with OBC210/115

Post by OU818 » Wed Jun 21, 2017 12:52 am

I currently run an OBC210/OBC115 stack which is pretty awesome but I have been hankering for the wall of sound that the OBC810 could deliver. Unfortunately I can't swing the cost of one of these new and they do not exist on the second hand market at all here.

So as an alternative I was thinking of grabbing an OBC410 and then having the choice of paring it with the 115 or 210 as I see fit. I have heard many good things about the pairing with the 115 (despite the folks over at TalkBass seeing the mixing of speakers as some form of heresy) however has anybody paired it with the 210 to make a 610 stack? I imagine that it would sound different than the 810, not only due to 2 less speakers but also as the 210 is front ported with a horn and the 410 is rear ported with a horn. If anything it would definitely fill a room

There's plenty of the 410 on the second hand market here so I'm thinking this combo could fill the gap that a huge Orange fridge is currently giving me

Of course the second option is running a 2x115 stack. Not sure if I will lose any upper mids/highs from doing this, it would be awesome though

4X10 plus 1X15 is pretty awesome. That's what I have... big sound. Either way though, you can't go wrong....

Yea stay away from Talkbass with this topic. The speaker mixing police are fast on the scene. I wen't though this whole ordeal when I asked about a Traynor 1510 cab that comes with 210's and 115 in the same box. WOOPS! That said if you do have a technical question about anything gear, they are the place to go. Folks are almost too smart over there.

It will sound wicked either way. I run a 412 and 212 for my main setup. I like the low end of the 412, and the tightness/projection of the 212. I think they go great together. I have not tried an 812 stack though, so I can't say for sure what I'm missing. I would think it might be a bit too bassy based on my experiences with the 412. This is in guitar land of course. In either case I would get the 410 now, and then down the line, if you find a deal on another one scoop it up for those 810's you always wanted. An 810 is massive, and nearly unmanageable without a road crew. 2 4X10 cabs is much easier on the back and you won't have to buy/rent a van for every gig :)

BASSPlayer - "Hey wife/husband! We have a gig tonight get down here I need a hand!"
WIFE/HUSBAND - "You are not moving that big sh1t again are you? You know how much I hate that thing!"
BASSPlayer - ":) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)"

My brother (our bass player) uses a (not orange :( )2x10 paired with a home-grown 1x18 cab that's bigger than a 412...

its... sufficient....

After playing around a bit last night I have realised that the 2x10 is actually being held up by the 1x15.

I used the 1x15 solo and all the bottom end, punch and growl were still there. In fact it barely sounded like it was missing the 2x10. Went to the 2x10 solo and just didn't gel with it. Found it a bit thin and lacking in oomph.

So my verdict: Picking up a second 1x15 to run as a 2x15 stack. Both will be black as it seems that getting the Orange Tolex in this town is non-existent. I'm actually happy with the black cabs and orange head however so all good.

Really it should just take what I love about the OBC115 and give me way more of it.
