OB1-300 vs 500
With just $100 difference, is there a reason (besides the $100) to buy the 300 instead of the 500?
Re: OB1-300 vs 500
My Traynor 1510 cab would perish if I hooked up the 500. 300 on the other hand would be perfect. Plan to get one pretty soon here.
If your cabs can take it, get the 500. More headroom, more low end.
If the ob1 has any dirt on the clean side technically the 300 should breakup/clip earlier.

Another thing I though of, since the 500 has more wattage, it would have more of a low end emphasis. The 300 should have more of a low mid push in comparison.

Biggers Better,right

I have the 300 and find it completely adequate. I barely breach half on the volume when jamming with a loud guitarist (100 watt Engl Richie Blackmore) and a loud drummer.
I did want the 500 but it was out of stock when I went in. Was happy enough with the 300 to not feel I was missing out.

I've been curious about the low end punch/output compared to other amps. Do you have experience with other heads? My Traynor SB500H is lacking in the low end punch department. Very low mid heavy though, as it's only 250 watts RMS. The A,D,&G string hit you in the gut, where as the E string is just more of a "noise". There is no body behind it if that makes sense. Even worse in drop D. Tried different cabs and basses, but it's the same. Not really sure how the class A/B in the 300 would compare to the class D I'm currently using.
I'm also on the fence a bit about the OD section. In some of the videos it sounds huge, in others it sounds farty and fizzy. It is more of a fuzz hey? I defiantly wouldn't be running it high, just to add a touch of grit. I tried the TB500 into the SP210 a few years back and absolutely hated the gain sound. It was honestly one of the worst I've ever heard (next to the B3K, but that's a story for a different time ). I'm currently running a Xotic Bass BB Preamp/mosquite blender into my SB500H and it's super smooth! The 300 could replace my entire board which would be awesome! Haven't had a chance to try the 300 yet, as the only time we had one locally it was gone sold before I could try it out.
