New Orange on its way - First time Orange owner

Post by Lyric » Wed May 10, 2017 2:55 am

Hi everyone, New Member and soon to be first time Orange owner. Just Sunday I ordered the Orange CR120H and matching Crush Pro 4x12 Cabinet from zzounds.com

Anyways I'm super thrilled to get this gear and I'm sure I'll be in love. Posts and videos are good for this amp and I'm so excited. I've always been a tube guy but I think this seriously has brought me down to earth because Orange has seriously done an amazing job here. Yes I have friends who will shun me because it's a solid state head but hell with them because what matters is what I think and like. Btw I have plenty of these friends. Either I'll surprise a few or I'll possibly loose a few because they'll disown our friendship lol and I say hell with it.

The head and cab should be here tomorrow. I'll post back pics and my thoughts :)

Btw question and this is been annoying the hell out me but for the CR120H I'm seeing different graphic model prints on the cases of some. Any idea here? Are certain ones duds or worse than the others? Pics attached to show what I mean.

So are certain dates for certain ones? Just wondering when the years were for each. I'd like if I got the newest but unsure lol.

The amp name on the face plate has changed, but no idea about the innards - I believe they should all be the same, with perhaps minor circuit variation.

Cabinet arrived today :D

But the head got held up in my area and won't be delivered till tomorrow :(

This cabinet is nice and super solid it appears. I don't know the sound just yet since I'm waiting on the head to get here but if looks is all I have to go by so far then I can say it's one beautiful sexy cab. I can only imagine how beautiful the full size PPC4x12 cab would be but this compact size is perfect and very happy so far :D Just on appearance, durability, sexiness and everything else a lot of manufacturers could take a few pointers from Orange 8) I can't believe how wide front to back these cabs are - amazing and I bet it'll be beefy and full :)

Right now I can only stare at this beautiful cabinet until the head comes in tomorrow

Congrats, and welcome to the club! I have the same setup and it sounds amazing. SS never sounded so good. Seriously. :o

AFAIK, the amps are the same. The plain CR120 were the first (which is like mine from 6/2013), next came the Twin Channel, and most recent is the Crush Pro 120.

The compact cabs sound really good. I've done an A/B with a PPC412 and didn't notice a significant difference. I actually like the VOTW speakers better with the CR120 than V30S. They're slightly different (a little more mids, imo).

It's a great sounding g setup, isn't it? I'm stoked on mine. I paid $329 for my CR120 and it sounds better than our other guitar players $1000 TH100. We both use CRPRO412's. I really like the VOTW speakers. They sound excellent with this amp. I ended up taking off the Crush Pro badge in the corner. It looks better w/o it, imo.

Congrats!

Yes, it's a wonderful setup and I'm in love with it. I've played tube amps all my life and I'm in utter shock this sounds as great as it does. Orange seriously hit the nail on the head with this amp. I couldn't ask for more and I have no want to look elsewhere. I have some friends I believe will be shocked that it's a solid state but I do have friends who will turn their nose up to it saying it's nothing great because those friends are tube snobs lol. I was once a tube snob myself I'll admit till I found this hidden gem. I find it amazing how some can so blind themselves to a belief and not open up to something outside the box. I understand that over the years that solid state has been somewhat piss poor but seriously Orange did some studies and test to make one of the best solid states amps ever. I'm a seriously proud owner of this and those who turn their nose up to it because it's not tube well then let them - isn't gonna hurt my feelings. I love my setup, my sound and thank you very much Orange.

I've read many reports from lots of tube amp enthusiasts who swore by tubes and they tested this and were blown away and now it's become their main amp. While some have purchased this for their backup and honestly if it's good enough for backup then it's great for your main setup.

I think the Voice of The World speakers sound great and I really appreciate the compact size of the cabinet. Still big and beefy for some low end but not back breaking lol.

One of first things my fiancé said is, you should remove that Crush Pro off the lower speaker grill lol. I've thought about it but does it leave glue or any residue behind? If not then I'll probably remove it as I agree it's not great but sort of cheesy lol. But not to much of an eyesore but would look better without I agree.

I've been playing tube amps only too since the early 90's. Mesa/Boogie, Marshall, Orange. But this CR120 is an amazing amp for a fraction of the cost of a RV. I've no plans to change amps for the forseeable future. It sounds awesome on its own.

The badge is easy to pull off. It was put on with just some hot glue. It and the glue will just pull off of the grill. I used a small screwdriver to coax it along.

Here's w/o the CrushPro badge:

Sweet looking :)

Just finished cooking dinner and cleaning up the kitchen lol. I may go play some tunes here shortly and try removing the badge. I think I'll take two exact photos of before and after.

But I agree just from the pics you posted it looks better without the badge.

Thanks :)

Well removing the lower badge left a little white-ish look where the badge once was before removal. I didn't like the white-ish left look so I heated the glue back up on the badge and placed it back onto the cabinet. Not sure if that white-ish look would have faded away with time but yeah lol.
