Not sure of the exact work just yet however he had told me that he replaced all the changed components back to their original schematic requirements. Also replaced a few others that had been affected by the shitty mismatched tubes that had been put in it.
General clean-up, retube and all new fuses.
Cost me another $450 but I reckon that's still worth it as half of it was the cost of the tubes.

So you got yourself an AD200, for $950 AUD instead of over $3000 new..... so for less than a 1/3 of the price of a brand new one, you got a road worn amp with a brand new set of valves.
I hope it sounds great, because it sounds like a great deal from where I stand!!!!!
Congrats again!!!

Yeah I am pretty happy with how it turned out. It was a definite gamble as if it had turned out to have been damaged beyond repair (or at least an affordable repair) I would have been stuck with a hard-to-flip paperweight and an empty wallet.Les Paul Lover wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2017 11:31 pmSo you got yourself an AD200, for $950 AUD instead of over $3000 new..... so for less than a 1/3 of the price of a brand new one, you got a road worn amp with a brand new set of valves.

Now I just feel bad for the OB1-300 unless I start bi-amping

I have only one thing to say... "Holy pile of poop this sounds huge!". I feel bad for my OB1-300 now as I believe it is going to get relegated to 'back-up amp'.

Well I guess even a nice 300W solid state amp is always going to have to take a bow to a nice 200W valve job. Possibly the OB1-500 might have been closer in performance terms...
How do you find it compares tonally though? You get on with the gain / blend controls? I did like the OB1 when I tried it (in a shop).
More importantly though, I'd love to see more of those basses hiding at the side of your pic, especially the Rickenbacker...

It's actually a Greco. Made in Japan in 1978. Neck through construction however it is only mono out, not stereo. I wish I could afford a real Rick however in Australia they are very expensive. One day, possibly after I buy a Musicman Stringray 5a.hun wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2017 11:57 amWell I guess even a nice 300W solid state amp is always going to have to take a bow to a nice 200W valve job. The 5 string is a Squire Jazz Deluxe 5 that I scored for a couple of hundred. Wasn't sure how I felt about 5 strings so didn't want to drop too much straight away. Now I love them.

Re: NAD: Beaten up AD200B - Updated with Pics
First rehearsal with the AD200 last night and I finally got to play it at proper volumes.
This amp just gets better and better. I didn't really get it over half way on the volume but that was more than enough to hang with a loud drummer and a guitarist with a 100 watt Engl Richie Blackmore head and Orange 2x12 CB.
Funnily enough, before I left for the jam I nearly took the Ibanez ST-9 Super Tube Screamer off my board as it sounded weak at bedroom volumes. Man, it opened up amazingly with the volume up. So much that I didn't use any other pedals all night and am now building a new board on a PT Mini to accomodate the fact I have found the drive sound I am after.
New board will be:
Mooer Polytune Mini clone -> One Control Mosquite Blender -Blender Loop Out-> Micro Pog -> Ibanez ST-9 -Blender Loop In-> Tech 21 VT Bass DI (used only as a backup or for gigs where I can't bring the full rig).
I am so glad I scored this amp and took a gamble on getting it repaired. Except for maybe an Ampeg SVT-VR and an 8x10 I can't think of another rig I would want to play, and there's no chance of affording one of those any time soon
Now I am tempted to try an Orange 8x10 except I honestly don't think one would fit in my hatchback.
