I finally bought a Rocker 30 head...

Post by Bensnake » Mon Apr 24, 2017 10:24 pm

I did own a R30C couple of years ago but sold it because I didn't fancy the combo format. Since then I have searched for a head in great shape and last year I found an item in mint condition at a price that seemed too good to be true which it actually was. I was scammed and lost the money I payed in advance. They took the guy who did it and he turned out to be a pro defrauder with many scams on his track record so my case wasn't even brought up in court. It's called "straffrabatt" in Sweden, which means that if you did commit several serious crimes, you don't have to serve extra time for the smaller crimes. So the Police dropped the case.

However, now I've found another R30 and this time I pay when picking the damn thing up at the post office. Should be here any day now. Feels great. :D

Cool!!!!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts, especially on comparison to your OR50. I believe the 2 have some overlap, but that isn't direct experience, so hopefully you will be able to shed some light!!!

I don't buy the R30 voodoo either - it is a fantastic amp, but that's all it is.
I'm very lucky to have 3 fantastic amps, and it is one of them. It's dirty channel is pretty special. But then the dirt I get from my RV50 or AD15 is pretty special too - just very different flavours!!!

Out of the amps that I own, the Rocker 30 would be my desert island amp. The only thing its missing for me is an effects loop. In a band setting I find it can lack a bit of headroom sometimes if the rest of the band is very loud, on the other hand, I've played some venues with it where they wanted to keep the sound levels down and I could get a pretty good tone out of it, unlike Marshalls I've played that needed to be cranked in order to sound decent.

It also excels at being blended in with other amps in a two amp setup, especially something more bottom heavy like the Dual Dark.

VOODOO!!!

I buy it no joke! Every other amp I play makes me so sad, and I immediately rush home to my precious R30 and whisper a sensitive melody into its citrus embrace.

I was shooting out combos last month and oh dear lord, found a mesa that had a nice clean channel! Really nice in fact. Flipped over to the dirt channel and though something was broken. Kept fiddling but nope. That said, I put my R30 through just my 412 a few weeks ago and wasn't impressed. I usually run it through a PPC412, and PPC212 and it sounds massive. Tons of clarity and presence. Through just the 412 it was boomy and bubbly in the mid section. I tweaked the EQ for what seemed like hours only to get annoyed and hook up the PPC212 again. In all honestly, I think a lot of our tone love comes down to "what our ears get used to". I'm sure if I played through the 412 for a few months I would get used to the sound and prefer it. Who knows?

Just picked it up and powered the thing on to check everything's alright. Sounds like I remembered; dynamic, ruff and punky with significant Orange flavour. Gonna play it louder tomorrow... It is in great shape btw. I'm exited. 8)
