Orange Thunderverb 50 or OR100 for stoner/doom

Post by 0to » Mon Feb 06, 2017 11:54 pm

Both of these amps has some kind of attenuator, both has 2 channels. I don't know which one I should go for though, which one does "that" better. I'm using BAT Pharaoh fuzz so I guess it needs to take that fuzz well. Any info welcomed.

The OR100 doesn't have an attenuator, just power scaling. The attenuator is the #1 feature I use of my orange. I am able to use a 100 watt head for bedroom practice easier than I can a 30 watt combo. It is crazy. The OR100 is a fantastic amp but given the two options, i would get the TV 50.

Both would work. The pharoah goes great w Modern oranges. ( and vintage ) If you're playing this genre, louder is always better.
( Unless you aren't in a band )

From my experience the extra wattage will really help when down tuned and wanting to "feel" it in your chest, I tried most of the smaller orange amps (after using higher wattage) and while the sound was there it didn't have the "feeling" I wanted from it.
Current: Hiwatt HiGain 100(early UK built), PPC412AD(LTD White), PPC412, AD140HTC, PPC412HP, Ampeg SVT-AV, SVT810AV, SVT215E.
