HOW TO ACHEIVE A PERFECT TONE WITH ORANGE
Ok to make a long story short i recently purchased a orange rockerverb mkii 50 watts ......but the amp seemed shrill and liveless specially in the dirty channel ...i always liked the transparency of the orange amps but the voicing is a bit sterile......( it took me few weeks to admit it and i was not really proud of it till now)......the main problem is not the tubes or the speakers like lots of people tend to say in these forums ....its all about the PREAMP ....Orange have a own unique sound and i was expected a more organic feel to the amp less gain and more mid bumpy than scooped to death tone....ok my all time favorite amplifier (and i own quite a few vintage and modern amps) is a fender deluxe 68 custom and this amp have evrything except the power ....its rating at 22 watts...So i decide to link the preamp of my deluxe to the power amp of the rockerverb an easy task that i did not tough about till today but it worked you only have to have two inputs in the first amplifier that you use as a master.....plug your axe in the (deluxe for me) and in the second input (not the other channel) link it to the rockerverb input and here it is the BEST TONE EVER....my favourite amplifier with the rockerverb power.......for those who think why did i pucrchased the orange at the first time ...it was mainly for the clean channel wich i was going to drive ( like the old or 80 ) but it wasnt exactly what i expected.....like i say the drive channel is the worst of the two but still these amps are great for what they do best ....GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW AMP !!!
Re: HOW TO ACHEIVE A PERFECT TONE WITH ORANGE
Buying a Rockerverb when your favourite tone comes from a Deluxe Reverb seems a little odd in my book. Glad you sorted it out. An unorthodox solution for sure.

I was gonna say, "Easy. Buy an OR120, plug it in, turn it up."
Re: HOW TO ACHEIVE A PERFECT TONE WITH ORANGE
To each their own....
Doesn't really make sense though. You're not going to get the preamp from the Deluxe into the Rockerverb by using the inputs. You'll just get one guitar into two separate amps. Deluxe on it's own, Rockerverb on it's own. You're doing the same thing as if you had an A/b/y pedal into two separate amps using the Y setting.

Re: HOW TO ACHEIVE A PERFECT TONE WITH ORANGE
No way is that the way to get a perfect tone from an Orange amp .
Shrill and lifeless drive channel??..... Really?...a scooped tone?? ....No way ......I just don't recognise that description of the Rvmkii.....Is that at gig Volume.
It can be a high gain amp modern voiced amp but you can turn the preamp gain down.
It does sound to me like you've bought completely the wrong amp .

And in my experience, you don't even have to turn it up that high.bclaire wrote:"HOW TO ACHIEVE A PERFECT TONE WITH ORANGE?"

Sounds like the OP doesn't like the rockerverb. That's fine. It's happened to one person before. His name his Boy_Narf. He lived on. Just sold it and got something he like instead.
May be the op just needs a pro reverb or a twin reverb.

Curious.... fender = orange. Not likely... if you love fender amps Orange won't do it for you. Buy both, play both

This!
Not often I get to crank my OR120, but man, it is the best I have ever heard when I do and the touch sensitivity is just phenomenal. No pedals needed either, just touch
Re: HOW TO ACHEIVE A PERFECT TONE WITH ORANGE
In my case, it's been: "Buy TTHW and PPC112, set Gain pot to 3 o'clock, dime Tone and guitar, set Volume as desired and rawk out!" Pretty simple.

Hate to say it, but jondog is right. Plugging into the two inputs on that Deluxe is just like splitting your signal through an ABY switch. If it sounds better to you, it can only be explained two possible ways 1) Placebo effect, or 2) you're hearing the amp you like mixed in with the amp you don't like as much.
Based on your description, it sounds like you prefer amps that have less preamp gain, and driving the power section harder. The Rockerverb has a high gain preamp, and in order to get that modern sound with that much gain, the preamp is wired to filter out a lot of bass to keep it articulate. If you're not a big fan of high gain and decide to simply turn it down, it will sound kinda thin, stiff, lifeless. It's a very different animal from the Deluxe.
Oranges are great amps, and there are a few models that might suit you better than the RV. Don't get discouraged by this one! I think an old OR or AD would suit you better.

Re: HOW TO ACHEIVE A PERFECT TONE WITH ORANGE
I know the RV is considered high gain but I started with the dual dark so the rockerverb seems quite tame to me. I wonder what guitar the OP is using. Shrill is never a word i would use for the tone but I use mostly HB so maybe a tele can get shrill.
I would agree with others that the RV isn't the amp for him.

Obvious troll is... obvious.
On a more serious note, I would agree that the Fender DRRV sound really good, specially with my strat. Having said that, "sterile" would be the last word I would describe my Orange's (TH30) clean tone. It has it's own thing going; different, but I can say it's quite up there with the best cleans I have ever tried.

You're probably right. But after working in a music store, and seeing in person how dense musicians can be, for seven years, I lean toward giving people the benefit of the doubt.johnnyblues wrote:Obvious troll is... obvious.
