Re: OTR 80?
While I don't know numbers, I haven't seen any OTR's in my travels where I have seen a lot more of the OR120's and OR80's.

Agreed. I've never seen production numbers, but I'd say OTRs are far more rare.

Re: OTR 80?
I have never seen an OTR 80 only OTR 120's.
I have almost bought 2 of them over the past 4 years, but ended up passing. One was in brand new condition with original paperwork (some sales flyers, etc. that came with it when new). It was priced higher than 70's model OR's though, so I passed.
I ended up picking up a 70's overdrive 120 instead to go with my NMV OR120, but I have a master volume on my OR120. I probably should sell the overdrive at some point, just not ready yet and I would like to hear how the OTR sounds with the modifications it has had, though, side by side if I ever get a chance too.

Re: OTR 80?
I think the OTR might be my favorite OR120 variant. Don't tell anyone I said that.

Re: OTR 80?
I have thought about having my Overdrive 120 converted to OTR specs actually. I wonder if it would be worth it or if it is just subtle?
Re: OTR 80?
Is that a fact? I believe I played an OD120 in a studio back in the late 80's but I've never tested an OTR. What is it about the OTR that makes it your favourite? For the record: I won't tell a soul.Gladmarr wrote:I think the OTR might be my favorite OR120 variant. Don't tell anyone I said that.

I guess I'd say it's a little more dynamic and maybe brighter than the OD120.... Maybe.

Re: OTR 80?
I've only heard one, but it was brighter than I'd generally consider an OR-120 to be. Some amps are different than others though. My previous 90s OR-80 was a very dark amp. The 90s Overdrive 80 I have now is noticeably brighter.Gladmarr wrote:Bensnake wrote:Is that a fact? I believe I played an OD120 in a studio back in the late 80's but I've never tested an OTR. OTRs are cool amps. There was some silly marketing behind them, but they're basically an OR amp with (I believe) 8 circuit modifications. I still surmise that Orange no longer had the rights to build those circuits, and changed the amp enough to build the OTR legally when the company was building amps again, to kick off the new product line. I don't have any facts to base that on, but it was always odd to me that they never made OR-80/120 amps again.

Re: OTR 80?
It sounds like the changes that produced an OTR sound like I would like them as I think it would make the amp a bit more generic sounding for playing a wider array of classic tones. The Oasis guitars had some OTR in them and I don't necessarily think they sound like an OR to my ears. But a bit brighter and sparkly with a crisper crunch and perhaps not as much wooliness and fog as the gain increases might not be a bad thing for me personally. I also wonder if the changes make the amp a bit more pedal friendly?
Anyway, I had a chance at a mint condition one, but I am a bit of a snob I guess and wanted an original Overdrive instead and an amp without Noel Gallagher's name attached to its history. The mint condition one was overpriced for my wallet at $2000.00 at the time. I got my vintage overdrive for much less.
