Rocker 30 possible preamp tube issue.

Post by kpunk56 » Thu Dec 01, 2016 7:25 pm

Recently I have been getting an odd feed back once my guitar volume it totally cranked. obviously if I play a chord it will over power the feedback and produce the right sounds, I thought maybe it was the guitar, I use p90s and they are noisy anyway sometimes. But then I tried another guitar and got the same thing.

The power tubes in my rocker 30 are pretty new, But I have never changed the pre amp tubes, I am thinking this will fix the issue,

Any thoughts ...

I think R30's are invincible and never have any issues. Then again, I change all my tubes immediately after I get any new amp.

Yes change those, and report back. Hoping it's not one of the transformers going

Is it on both channels? Do you have any used ones you can slot in one at a time to see if that fixes it ? Then you know for sure. I'd try the preamp PI first if it's on both channels but even newish valves can get faulty.

It may be one of the tubes, not all preamp tubes go wrong at the same time, would be best to isolate the issue by changing one at a time.

Its weird... it is intermitten, today it was not doing it at all, and it does NOT do it on the natural channel. Only dirty.

With the Rocker 30 the V1 preamp tube is common to both channels too (each channel uses half of it). That said, one triode could go weird whilst the other stayed the same I suppose.

It's only V2 that is used by the dirty channel alone.

I do not have other tubes to check unfortunately ... I am just gonna get a new set anyhow, because even if that does not fix, it cannot hurt having new tubes.
