NGD : I blame you, yes you.
Heard many times (no.. actually Sooooo many times...lol) that a tele is a great match for Orange amps, I have been wondering for months, so have been trawling ASATs for a while and then suddenly, this appeared..
G&L ASAT Classic Tribute
beautifully made, sounds like a dream with the R30.. and for $445 new from studiogears in CA..
Yes i blame you (you know who you are), but then again, you were all absolutely correct

Absolutely.
It's totally their fault i agree with you.
I've been tempted by those!
How does it compare to supposedly higher end axes?
I'm very keen on their ASAT bluesboy model.....
Your axe is really sweet I must say. Love the natural finish !!!!

In terms of build quality, they (the Tribute models) seem to be excellent.. (this is the third i have owned..SB-2, Fallout).
Comparing to my USA Fallout, the tuners are excellent, but non-locking and while the pots and switches feel better on my USA Fallout, the fit and finish seems excellent in both cases. I have noticed on a couple of satin finish maple neck versions of the Tribute that the fretboard edges are not as smoothly rolled as the USA versions, but the lacquer of the vintage tint gloss covers that really well.
With regard to the ASAT in particular, there is a small difference in the location of the neck pup apparently between the Tribute Asat Classic and the USA version, but its pretty trivial..
It was a hard choice between a bluesboy and this, but i was attracted to the MFD pickups... and the vintage tint gloss neck is just beautiful..
not sure that helps?.. don't want things to be MY fault!..

Re: NGD : I blame you, yes you.
Nice looking Tele! I got a Fender American Standard Tele last year, looks cool, feels cool, but I cant say the same about the tone although I have been rolling the guitar volume back a bit to experiment which has helped, I'm just used to humbuckers and volume on full I suppose. I like the neck pickup I just haven't been able to gel with the bridge.

Sort of does help..... Not sure in which direction!!!!!! What's special about those MFD pick ups ? They sure look good.Mystic38 wrote:In terms of build quality, they (the Tribute models) seem to be excellent.. (this is the third i have owned..SB-2, Fallout).

Re: NGD : I blame you, yes you.
you can find a bit on the web about G&L MFD.. and asat comparisons.. MFD come in the big and beefy variety (ASAT Special) and the normal variety (this).. Ceramic magnets, high output, adjustable pole pieces.
how does it sound?.. well its subjective, if you want a true tele sound then it would need to be the asat classic alnico for a better comparison, but to me this kinda sounds like the sc pups have been working out.. more oomph, clearer lows, more mids, still sweet top end but perhaps not as glassy?..
..and there are adjustable pole pieces...lol
my big concern in advance was the bridge pup as a strat sc bridge to me is thin and reedy, but luckily it was unfounded as the mfd bridge here is really good.. drives the R30 very nicely

I have a butterscotch G&L ASAT Classic...with a thick V neck. I bought it "accidentally" on eBay by submitting a very low offer, and for some reason the seller took it! Which was both exciting and terrifying cause I didn't even have enough cash to cover the low offer I submitted...but I managed to scrape it together...and I'm certainly glad I did! I had no idea about the v-neck until I was holding it, hated it at first, and now it's completely ruined me. I absolutely love the way it feels and I adore the guitar as a whole! It's my favorite!
