in a pickle

Post by afjungemann » Thu Sep 29, 2016 4:24 pm

So I have finally decided that I am going to get a RV MKIII. I have a DD100 and I love the grit of it but I just can't get a glassy clean like I can on my TH30C and it is something I use quite a bit so that settles that. However, when I was telling a friend about my decision, he said, "Will you sell your DD before or after you get an RV?"

I was instantly hit with a feeling of confusion. The DD was an amp I lusted after and saved up for and I still love the amp... so I felt weird thinking about selling it at all.

Is it completely unreasonable to have both the DD and an RV? I forsee myself using one or the other depending on the mood but I also know that there is a bit of "overlap" (I know they are different amps entirely but two heads for variety would probably be more different than two modern orange amps).

I'm glad you picked exactly the right forum to answer your question.

Of course you can keep both.and the TH30 too.
Gosh. Just the thought of you feeling forced to sell one feels me with sadness. Good thing you asked here!!!!

More seriously... There will be some overlap, but they will be different enough in their own right.

I personally have a AD15, a Rocker 30 and a RV50 MKI.
I don't think they're moving. May be in 5 years I won't have switched one for a couple of years and I'll revisit the question, but at the moment, I can afford to keep them, and I enjoy playing one or the other..... or the other!!!!

I haven't had a DD but I want one and I have a RV. The more the merrier if you can afford. And if you can afford it get the RV (mkiii is fantastic!) and play both happily, if you decide you can part with one, do so

Ah good. I know I was just fishing for some encouragement but it does help to know others find it useful. I figure the RV and DD have enough similarities that if something happened to one, the other could fill its slot as a back up.

More importantly, Bensnake... I am coming to your house for sunday afternoon jam sessions. That room is dripping with goodness.

Sounds like a great idea. The missus is away for a couple of days so it's gonna be long nights... 8)

Hi, I don't think 'reasonableness' or logic has anything to do will playing guitar and owning great gear!

If you don't need to sell it for economic reasons and have the space keep it, you may find yourself switching between different amps depending on how you feel or what your playing but it's great to have the choice.

There's many people on here with at least 2 orange amps .....many with a lot more!, Just enjoy and if you don't want too much overlap buy an ad30!

Have you tried the B channel on the Dual Dark with the gain around 9 oclock, volume up, and the shift around 2 oclock? I've gotten some pretty glassy sounding cleans even with a Les Paul down tuned. I can't compare it to a Rockerverb though.

Yeah, I have played with all kinds of settings and the amp cleans up well but it just feels like it is lacking the sparkle. My TH30 clean channel has exactly what I am looking for which is great but I would also like to get that out of my bigger rig. I was tempted to go with a TH100 but I think I would rather go up to the RV.

Ofcourse you should keep it! And buy an ABY box while you're at it to run both at the same time....
