Vertical Stereo 212: Open back Horizontal, or Vertical?

Okay,

So I'm building a stereo 212 for my "compact gig rig", and had planned to follow the dimensions of the PPC212OB. Due to my lack of carpentry skills, the horizontal sides of the cab rock like crazy, so it has become a vertical cab (as those sides are square). Now if I follow the PPC212 OB design, the open back will be up and down (a very long opening). I'm curious, if you folks would recommend having the opening cut out vertical (longer, up/down), or horizontal (smaller, left/to right).

I'm thinking having the opening horizontal, will allow for more bass response, as the sound waves will have more time to bounce around before exiting the opening. Not really sure though.

I think it's all going to boil down to experimenting with what you think sounds best. Sounds a bit like an elaborate rig so there's going to be a lot of variables. I'd go with horizontal though. That's typical.
