Had some time and compared my orange open back 212 against the closed back. Let me know what you think

Re: 212OB vs 212CB
Interesting.
The difference is subtle close up, but the room mic difference is very noticeable.
I assume the close to the cabs, the difference is more obvious in person rather than recorded too?

Re: 212OB vs 212CB
Very hard to capture what is heard in the room but it's wildly different. One reason I like the 212 OBs so much, just fills the room with guitar

Re: 212OB vs 212CB
Completely agree with this assessment. I much prefer the OB212 to my old PPC 4x12. Much easier to transport as well.thejay wrote:Very hard to capture what is heard in the room but it's wildly different. One reason I like the 212 OBs so much, just fills the room with guitar

Well, have both (the 212OB is part of a mending NASD thread).. and considering they have the same drivers they sound really different.. CB strong tight bass, focussed, clearer midrange, weighs like a volvo, the OB is open, better dispersion, more midrangey (sp), less bass but half the weight..

More like 3/4 of the weight. There's only an 8kg difference between the two.Mystic38 wrote:Well, have both (the 212OB is part of a mending NASD thread).. and considering they have the same drivers they sound really different.. Re: 212OB vs 212CB
thanks for posting this. I've always preferred OB but this is inspiring me to try CB again.
that AD30 clean is glorious! makes me want to dump my rocker 30 - anemic clean channel that I NEVER use.
ah but the gain channel....

Re: 212OB vs 212CB
lol.. while you are of course entirely accurate, try this test...
carry the PPC212 around the house and up the stairs, then do the same with the OB version.. is is absolutely half the weight!.. but, just not.

Re: 212OB vs 212CB
The AD30 clean(ish) channel is what makes it so useful imho, and while i totally agree about the R30 clean channel, it can be fixed easily with an EQ/boost. .. if you have a TC spark on "fat" mode it comes more alive and allegedly the EP booster does a good number on it to.

Re: 212OB vs 212CB
I have recorded the ad30, rocker 30 and or100 as cab comparisons with the closed back cab.... Difference is going to be the speakers vintage 30 vs g12h anniversary ones.
I'll have these out soon

I'm hearing ya. I just wish I could try a few out before deciding to buy another pedal I won't use.Mystic38 wrote:The AD30 clean(ish) channel is what makes it so useful imho, and while i totally agree about the R30 clean channel, it can be fixed easily with an EQ/boost. .. if you have a TC spark on "fat" mode it comes more alive and allegedly the EP booster does a good number on it to.
