New TH30 Head
Just got my new TH30 head which I ordered online because of all the fantastic reviews it gets.
Just wanted to say... man it is HUGE! As in, big, enormous, gargantuan, gigantic. I hadn't seen one in real life before I ordered it and, I must say it is ridiculously large.
What makes this most annoying is the fact that, when you look in the back, the case is obviously way oversized and probably made for one of the bigger models but Orange have just used the same case for the little 30 watter.
Maybe I'll just have to make my own case for it.

Hmmm....
I don't get it.
I think it's exactly like it should be.
Fits perfectly on a PPC 112, looks nice on a 212
And awesome on 412.
I don't think it would be a good idea to build something smaller to put the guts in, and can't imagine how.
The other thing is that this is a valve head, it gets pretty hot in there, the more space it has for ventilation the better.
Maybe something from the Terror series or an OR15 would have been a better idea.
Anyway, the exact measures should have been on the page you ordered it, no?
Measure twice, order once.
Anyway congratulations, it's a nice sounding head.
I love mine.

Re: New TH30 Head
They have a good size.
They sound pretty huge.......
Same size as the RV50 or R30.
To be honest, rehousing it would be a major headache.
Not only you'd have to make a new sleeve for it, but you would need to make a new face plate, get a new chassis.... (assuming the PCB fits in another smaller chassis).
Just accept it's size. It's a good size. The exact size of a TH30.

Re: New TH30 Head
Ha ha... your first pic shows perfectly one of the reasons I think it is way too big for a thirty watter. The head is wider than your cab!
Yes, I have built cabs before and they come out pretty sweet looking... and yes the facia is 1.5" oversized on each side simply to fill in the oversized case (the chassis is almost 3" smaller than the facia). Easy enough to slice off... and air vents are also easy to put in the top.
Just seems like lazy design. It would surely cost no more to make it the right size.

Re: New TH30 Head
My 1st pic shows my amps on a PPC212, but vertically.
That's why it's a touch wider. Otherwise, it's the same width as the PPC112.
If you want an oversized head..... You should look at some marshall heads!!!!!
But free to you to chop whatever you want from your TH30. It is yours after all!!!!

Re: New TH30 Head
Outside of the Terror series (including OR15) all Orange tube amp heads have the same size shell and faceplate.
Re: New TH30 Head
The TH30H is actually smaller than the new RV50 MKIII head, if you can believe that. I think my MKIII fills out my PPC212OB a lot more cleanly/nicely than my TH30 ever did, but it wasn't enough of a problem for me to even contemplate rehousing...that would be quite a task.
My biggest problem with the TH30 looks-wise was its shade of orange being lighter than all of my other Orange gear and the actual chassis didn't fit snugly or neatly into the wood frame.
But none of that matters if it sounds good!

I don't get it either. Orange heads are that size so they fit perfectly on a ppc112 .....and surely it saves money to have head sleeves for different amps of the same size.esseff wrote:Ha ha... your first pic shows perfectly one of the reasons I think it is way too big for a thirty watter. wow, you just got your new TH30 and all you can say is it's ridiculously huge? I thought at first you meant the tone but quickly realized..... you realize it's not a lunchbox, right?

Saw a Vox AC30 the other day. What idiot designed that amp? Way too big and heavy. It'll never catch on.

Yeah, just as well you hadn't ordered a small box plexi head, you'd of had a fit!

Re: New TH30 Head
yeah but....how does it sound?
I LOVED my TH30 and there are things about it that I miss:
- loved the simplicity of the shape knob
- and the clean channel
- and the versatility
- and the effects loop
- and the power scaling
- the size? didn't occur to me.
my rocker 30 has none of the features/attributes above but what it does have works for me for now and i'll keep it if I can afford to. the size tho....that might be the kicker

I know. That rocker 30 is uncessarily huge. What a beast. Same width as my RV50. What we're they thinking???
