'90s MATAMP made PPC412

Post by Kristian Ford » Wed May 25, 2016 1:43 pm

What's the general vibe on these, and is 600 a fair price? Im looking at one on CL. The original OR120 manual says I have to have 2 cabs, so I'd better heed their advice..
Has G12T-75s, fair shape..

Hey Kris!

Personally, I wouldn't buy it. I've seen newer PPC412's go for less than that on CL, and they had V30's. I don't think Orange amps pair well with G12T-75's. They're too scooped and lose a lot of the mids and lower mids that make the Orange toan.

Yeah, I was gonna say the price seems too steep for me and the speakers are an acquired taste...... That taste may be yours though!!!!

It's great speakers for 80s hair metal......

Yeah, from a totally vain standpoint, it wouldn't match my other modern PPC412..which doesn't match the '75 Vinyde anyway..LOL.
I think I'd like the G1275s better with my JMP2203..(which I ran with a JCM900 cab for a few years, it worked then, but probably wouldn't match well with G12H30 blackbacks that are in my 1882A cab.)
Thanks guys!
I will probably look for a newer one.

Any experience with the G12K100s in the HP cab? How would one mix an 8 ohm cab an a 16 ohm cab? (there's one listed for 600)

I haven't actually heard the G12K100, but have read that they're really good speakers with a lot of bottom, punchy mids and smooth high end. They're high wattage though so they won't break up as early as the V30s. You'll need to really drive them loud and hard to get the most out of them.

I guess they used to be the G12K85 but we're renamed because they can handle more than 85 watts? That's what I read anyway.

Which all sounds good, but my PPC412 is 16 ohm, and that one is an 8 ohm..
Seems not be a good mix..one cab will draw more power than the other.
The search is on for a 16 ohm cab.

Yeah, that cab was designed for the TV200. The only guitar amp orange makes with 4 & 8ohms taps.

My OR120 has 4/8/16.
So that may still not be the best one..but would probably work well on it's own with an OR120.

On its own it would be fine, but with a another 16ohm cab you would have a mismatch.

May be the cab cam be rewired to 16ohms, I don't know - if they are all 4 ohms drivers, I think you should be able to make a 16ohms cab out of it. If they are 2 ohms drivers, 8ohms is all you can do.
