Yeah it was a pretty silly move financially. I would have been much better off just buying one of the British made lines as I essentially paid the same after the modifications. BUT, I like tinkering, learned a LOT, and had a great time doing the install.
I don't think it was silly at all. It's a subjective thing. I like my TH30 just fine the way it is now. It's not like I haven't looked at the Mercury site though. :)

I don't know much about the technical aspects, so that brings up some questions.

First of all what tranformers do they use in UK made Orange's?
Do they come stock with Mercury's?
Or are they from another maker?

And then I know that there are lots of transformer makers in Germany for example.
Is it maybe possible to find a top quality transformer for less than what a Mercury cost?

Even found a russian guy in Germany that builds custom high quality audio tranformers, wonder how much it costs to have him build a pair.

Since about the beginning of '06 they have been using custom spec Demeters. Some US built amps used MM's for a short period, and the Demeters were designed to sound very close to those. See the comments form Ade Emsley of Orange here:

Well poop I was hoping to get an or100 someday. Didn't wanna sell my ad30 to get it though. By the time I can save up for one it will probably be "vintage" and everyone will be shifted back to 100 watters and it'll cost me 4k

I hope you're right about the future price though I wish you'll be able to get one before that... :D

Well, I don't know about how similar the RVmkIII is to the OR100, because I still haven't played the RVmkIII. Something tells me the RV doesn't quite do the thicker, slightly lower gain crunch as well. Gain sells, I guess.

How about this, Orange: Rockerverb MkIV with footswitchable OR mode. Basically the same thing as the gain boost function on the OR, going from 3 gain stages to 4. Until you do something like this, the OR really wasn't redundant IMO.

OR and MKIII are not that close in my opinion. Both def Orange amps and the OR sounds way more vintage Orange than the MKIII. Both are fantastic though; the OR sounds nice and organic to me and the MKIII meets all my modern needs.
