I would too. The shoe polish trick works - maybe too well!

"Relicing" is the greatest scam ever perpetrated on the guitar buying world.

For the rust on the handle but, you could leave these parts to soak in vinegar and salt overnight, and then rub them with pads made of folded foil paper.

It should be hard enough to clear most of the rust, but soft enough on the metal.

Looks like an amazing amp. Congrats!!!!

Probably not. Thought that was 'class A, or ' 'true bypass', or maybe self tuning guitars! (The list goes on...)

At any rate having sampled some of the wares HERE I'd have to disagree. They make fantastic NOGs and NOBs, well worth the (considerable) price.

Thanks, guys. I'm sorry but deal's off. I got cold feet. Couple of reasons. 1. The price was too high. Not that I don't have the money but I got carried away. Even for US standard some would have considered the price not fair. And I even got it down a bit... 2. The color. I wanted an orange one to match my 412 with G12Hs. My two black 412s have V30s and I don't want to swap them as well. Work really well together with my OR100. 3. The shipping issue. We couldn't find a reasonable alternative and picking it up was out of the question. If I really, I mean really, wanted it at any price level and for every reason I'd have driven the 400 miles myself. We didn't check every option and we could have sorted it out I'm sure but...

I'm split right now. Maybe I'll regret my decision. It was a very fine item. But the gut feeling...

It's the second old OR I don't buy because of the gut feeling. Maybe I'm not ment to have one. Maybe I'm too picky regarding dings and vintage wear. Maybe it is a collecors NOS item I'm after.

Well, we'll see how it goes.

Again thank you all for your support. :)

I forgot to mention - those are knobs Matamp used in the mid 70s for their Orange contract builds. That amp was most likely built by Matamp.

Can that explain why the guy told me it really is a '75?

Well that's really a shame Bensnake.
But one thing I had to learn the hard way is to listen to my gut.
And hey, you never know, maybe you find THE one someday.
I wish you luck!

My 2 cents...

... If you'd ever got to play it live, I don't think you'd have given 2 stuffs about the dings and corrosion.

But that said, people do far too often want silly ridiculous money for vintage music gear these days.

Good luck in your quest :)
Paul.

If you didn't want the black you would have been hard pressed to ever find an original sleeve to swap it out for that was in good shape too....you will find another one at some point I am sure of it...you did the right thing if it didn't feel right.
