Well, that ruined it for me...
Just started watching Vinyl on HBO Now - opening sequences have The New York Dolls playing the Mercer Arts Center NYC - clothes look right, Nicole spots Orange onstage - they get closer and it's one of the new Crush heads. WTF.
Cred just went out the window....
Let's see how it gets a little deeper in.

I've recorded the first two episodes but not seen any yet. I think I sort of convinced myself that the storyline would be rubbish.....hopefully not.
Re: Well, that ruined it for me...
I was going to complain about the same thing .... lol I did not spot it fast enough. I thought it was a rockeverb but it was a quick glimpse. Regardless it should of been a matamp Orange if anything. Thunders never used them back then but they had them on stage when they were over seas. Thunders mainly used Fender Twin reverbs. Another thing that was off was that he always used TV yellow lp jr's or occasionally a special.

Blues artist a little later on playing a new Strat. Like obviously reissue new.
We bailed on it - not loving the characters.

Glad I'm not the only one who does this! A lot of modern music scenes in movies set in the 70s or 80s are ruined for me when I realize "what the hell is a JCM 2000 doing on stage?!"

or Marty Mcfly's guitar in back to the future when playing Johnny B. Goode....the guitar had not been invented or released yet....man that ruined that movie for me!
and did Chuck Berry rip off Marty and claim johnny b. goode as his own? wait this is the paradox with time travel isn't it? would chuck have written that without hearing marty play it, but how did marty play it without chuck having written and released it already....
Seriously though,
if the writers, editors, etc. cannot be detailed enough with a backline that I assume will be seen a lot during the performances, then this really throws out all credibility for authenticity....at least build replicas if the real deal is not attainable....a movie about music...musicians should be a big part of their audience....the small details add up to a lo

I think the best one was Buddy Holly playing a 1970s Fender Bronco.
Re: Well, that ruined it for me...
Surprising that Scorsese and Jagger would let that happen

The serie is not only released for Orange specialist. 99,9 % of the audience will not notice. But I agree, those modern crush head are a bit disappointing. If in next episode I see a line 6 gear I'll immolate a real vintage fender to protest.

You don't see those mistakes in 'Mad men'... If you're gonna illistrate an era you have to do it right in every detail.

I spoke with Sylvain Sylvain last week and he was disappointed in the whole thing. He said he wasn't involved in the re-recording of the song they used either. No credit = no money. Lame.

Was watching American Horror Story: Hotel and in the 11th episode of the season you see Sarah Paulson's character in the studio with 2 other musicians. There's a post-2008 AD30HTC sitting on top of a Marshall cab in the room. Sounds awesome, right?
Only probably is it was supposed to be 1993. Gibson hadn't even reissued the classics yet, and the AD30 had at least another 6 years to be conceived, and that's for the single channel version!
