EL34's in my Mesa Roadster

Post by CAR-15 » Thu Dec 17, 2015 3:19 am

I changed my power tubes from 6L6's to EL34's tonight and HOLY COW what a difference! Sound unbelievable. Nice midrange boost. Can't believe how much more open the amp sounds now. May give my Rockerverb 100 MKIII a run for it's money!

Glad you're linking the change. Yeah all other things being equal you'll usually find that EL34s are noticeably richer in the (important) mid frequencies than 6L6s. You've just pushed your amp a bit across the Atlantic Ocean, away from the US and more in the direction of 'British' amp sounds.

When I had a Roadster I did the same thing and loved the amp much more with EL34s vs the 6L6s.
