Handy to have a guitar like this for Halloween!

Post by bclaire » Sun Nov 01, 2015 9:07 pm

We had an awesome Halloween gig last night - I was worried since two other bands were playing in my town that are all friends and we have some of the same fans - but we had close to 200 people in the room so that was good.

We went as zombies - I was channeling Shaun of the Dead - but fortunately the $199 Slick guitar I bought was the perfect guitar for a lot of zombie blood:

and it all washed off, too! For a cheap guitar, it really sounds good with that single P90. The back of the neck was raw wood so I sprayed it with amber lacquer and made it a more playable instrument. Now to just get that SLICK logo off of there...

Awesome. How was the setup out of the box?

It was actually quite playable. Intonated well, D'Addario's on it, action good.

My original plan was to be a Johnny Thunders Zombie.... but I couldn't find a Thunders wig that would work - and I was all set to glue a bunch of gumdrops to the guitar like Thunders did once but in the end, the blood won out...

I've always wanted one of these, are they any good?
I mean, they're suspiciously cheap...

The brass wraparound bridge seems pretty decent and you can intonate it which you cant with LP jr's.
How are the tuning machines? Do they stay in tune?
What about pickups, any good?

I'd love to hear your input on these, thanks.

It's way better than I would have imagined. I bought it when they had a sale and the price dropped to $199. The pickup sounds great, tuners are good and hold tune well, nice light weight.

My only fault with the guitar was that the back of the neck was pretty much raw wood. After a few rehearsals using it and not liking the feel of the neck, I removed the neck, lightly sanded it, and sprayed three coats of amber tinted lacquer I got from reranch.com. Wet-sanded it and polished with Meguiar's Showcar Glaze and the Cut cleaner and it's way more playable.
