4x12 Cabinet choices

I recently purchased a Rockerverb 100 MK III. Love it, fantastic amp. I am playing it on a Peavey 5150 II cabinet. I think is sounds ok. Just purchased a 4x12 Orange PPC412A. This is the slant front cabinet.

My question is what can I expect out of the Orange? How will the sound be different? Better or worse?

Just wondering what to expect. Will it be brighter, darker etc?

It's difficult to tell without knowing the specific speakers in the Peavey cab. I believe they are the own brand Peavey sheffield model?
No idea what they sound like.

The Orange cab can sound quite big and tend to project more bass as they usually have more (physical dimensions) depth to them than the competition. I personally think the V30 is an excellent speaker, but it can be harsh to start with - but after a period of breaking in, it becomes a lot smoother than it is to start with.

Sorry I can't really answer your questin - but I'd very much like you to come back and compare them to us please.
What is for sure, speakers alone can have a huge effect on how your amp will sound, it's often a much ignored tone component.

You should expect to need a chiropractor

I also have the PPC412A... it's a great cab. It added a road case to mine and now it's REALLY heavy!

Yeah, I know it's heavy but that is no big deal. The Peavey cabinet I have now is heavy! It is the 5150 4X12. Speakers are Sheffield. I think the Rockerverb sounds kinda dark through it. Hoping the Orange cabinet has a bit more midrange and more "open" sounding. We will find out Tuesday when it gets here! I will report back.

Most people ask this before purchase, not the other way around. Anyhow: I think you'll be able to judge best how it compares ;)

A quad of V30's is pretty cool though, you'll definitely get some thick midrange out of it especially after they've broken in a bit. Very articulate too.

Disclaimer: I've only test driven one used 5150 4x12 w/ my OR15. But, given that, I'd say expect expect more lows and low mids w/ a bit more detail across the board.

A question I can actually answer :D

The Sheffield's are a totally different monster than the V30's in the PPC412. You're going to notice immediately that the Orange cab has way more mid range. Almost piercing at first. I honestly think you'll find you bought exactly what you're looking for. I was running the same set up for a little bit and understand what you're talking about with the 5150 cab. the only difference is I'm running the straight 412 instead of the slant now. Seems to me that I can get more range with the Orange cab with some tweaks than I could with the Peavey. The Peavey felt like I couldn't break out of that mid scooped sound . Perfectly content with the PPC412. Hope that helps ease your mind .

Hogie34, that is exactly the kind of answer I was hoping for! I sold the 5150II half stack today so now there is on going back!! The Orange cabinet will be here Tuesday. Looking forward to it!

It will sound thick & full. Vin30's are my favorite speakers. i have them in all my cabs. and yes, get a roadcase, a dolly, or a couple buddys to help you move that sucker...

Got it home, plugged it in and my mind was BLOWN!!! Absolutely sounded like someone pulled a blanket off of the amp. Mids are MUCH more defined and clear. Highs and lows sound more defined. Jesus what a piece of pile of poop that Peavey was!!!
