Big sale on Gibson 2015 models

Post by Ronnie Robinson » Wed Jul 22, 2015 4:21 pm

Just seen on Guitar Guitar web site prices on the 2015 models have been slashed on SG stardards, classics and deluxes......the 2014 models are still the same price, looks like people dont like the changes Gibson made for this year they are clearly not selling.....and I can understand why.

Is there an option to get that stupid auto-tuner toy removed? Then they'd be worth a deal.

I do too. They were basically forcing features on customers which most wouldn't want. I heard recently of a shop where they were basically 'normalising' new Gibsons and actually selling them. Crazy that they were basically being forced to do that... :?

Gibson got it wrong. Was obvious to many from the start. Why not to Gibson themselves?

Usually, I'm giddy when someone reveals a Gibson price cut. This year, however, I'm going to have to pass. They're clearly capable of making phenomenal guitars, but their decisions this year are mind-boggling.

Thanks for that. There's some interesting stuff particularly about the corporation and it's management it's interesting that people may be turning away from buying new preferring instead to buy quality used. My 2007 les paul classic has never felt so smug.

Those classical style necks that are on the 2015's blow. The tuning system is failing and those brass nuts are also developing grooves in them. I also saw where someone who was sent a replacement for the failed brass nut got a bad replacement !

I noticed that GAK are offering up to £1000 of 2015 models off.
I wonder if it has more to do with the $ exchange rate? The £ is pretty strong at the moment.

I must say some of the spec on the 2015 are pretty disengaging.... The e-tune should be an option only imo, and the special edition signing is pretty horrid looking too.

I like the concept of zero fret, my Vigier sold me on that one, but that 1/2 zero fret 1/2 nut thing is pretty ugly looking to me. I bet it's fully functional, but I'm vain, and like my expensive guitars to look good as well as sounding great. Between, the "special" 3yo les paul writing and the nut, they lost me.

I've seen quite a few of these tuning systems for sale on eBay / Gumtree too.... Quite a few people take them off their guitar. I haven't tried it so can't comment, but ibknow some friends are interested in it, because they play multiple tunings cover sets.

I think Gibson needs to put out a few more Les Paul models, since obviously they don't have enough. :P What is it, around 15,000 by now?

At least those gawker articles helped me to understand Gibson's new demographic  :

"Gibson got it wrong. Was obvious to many from the start. Why not to Gibson themselves?"

The CEO has a stake in the autotuner things. He spent millions developing them, and he has to make them "profitable." By putting them on all the models he can, he can write off the cost of development.

It is an interesting concept. Perhaps usable, to some. Not to me. Just another modern "solution" in search of a real problem. Seriously, an important part of learning how to play a traditional, analog instrument is learning how to tune the thing. It is a core concept. Plus, it ain't that hard. Out of tune? Listen, and turn a little key a bit. If you can't learn how to tune, you have no business trying to play a guitar...

Don't get me started on the monstrosities that are the 2015 Gibson guitar line up. Just. Don't. Some of them are really pretty, but that neck, nut, and tuner just piss me off. Luckily, I have older Gibsons that still work great. Better yet, they sound great through my Orange amps.

Jay

I bought a 2015 LP Classic on a whim... Wasn't all bad but extremely overpriced for what it is in my opinion. If it were say $1500 I'd buy one and remove the auto tune, I didn't like it, but on some manuals bs is be happy. I liked the wider neck, remove able pickguard and pickups. Ultimately I returned it

Andertons too. It seems to be UK wide. I've seen the horror stories about Gibson management before and those linked to here sound like the company is in imminent danger of folding.
For all their faults though... They do seem to be getting some things right. I'm highly desirous of a ES 335 and I couldn't find anything wrong with either of the ones I tried - other than price!
Maybe the problems are at Nashville only?

I'm done buying Gibsons forever. They have a great tone if you get the right ones, but the price and quality control is frankly flat-out insulting now. I may only buy Fender products and Japanese guitars (not Ibanez), which have never let me down. Quality japanese guitars have super precise fit and finish, playability, and if you want you can grab a great amp and chuck luxury pups in them for a better sound than almost any Gibson/Fender.
