What other amps out there would you like to try (not saying that you want to replace your Orange or anything ) just for trying sake.
Here are ones that I want to try.
Fuchs- and or Dumble - Overdrive supreme.
Friedman- Dirty Shirley
Reeves - super 78
Hiwatt - Studio Stage mk II or III
Soldano - Hot rod 50

is/are. The only real Hiwatts are the DR103, DR504, CP103, DR405, or DR201. And even then, the only good ones were made by Hylight electronics, and to a lesser degree Biacrown and Audio Bros. Every other variation is either not a Dave Reeves design or flat out junk (in the case of the California made ones from the late 80s).Hiwatt - Studio Stage mk II or III

I only know about the studio stage model from seeing youtube clips... there is a blues serincino demo of them.... junk or not... they seem to sound pretty good .. tone clips remind me of the rocker 30.

Re: What other amps
There's been a lot of funny stuff with the latest owners of the Hiwatt name. Look up musicground and Hiwatt. You'll find some pretty sketchy stuff going on. The name might have already changed hands, though. I'm not exactly in the loop.

Re: What other amps
Used to have one. Ínteresting amp right enough. My then tech found that it was very close to class A running and could actually get there by pushing the old Mullard EL34s hard.Gladmarr wrote:Oh yeah, and as far as other amps I'd like to try:

To be honest though the amp didn't do anything for me. (Whatever the operating class! ) I kept the two original alnico Goodmans putting in some old Fanes to sell the amp when I moved here. Don't miss it at all.
Amps I'd like to spend (more) time with? Jings, would be a long list - there are still quite a few I haven't tried, and a couple I'd love to go back to...
First few which come to mind:
Try outs...
Ampeg B15
Ampeg V4B
Budda Superdrive
Acoustic 360
Magnatone 280
Fender 300 or 400PS
Hiwatt DR201 (200W) or DR405 (400W) (Or the Reeves Custom 225 / 400 equivalents.) OH YEAH!
Mesa Bass 400+
Mesa Blue Angel
Fender Super Champ (modded)
Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb
THD Univalve / Bivalve
Go back to's...
Music Man HD130 (wonderful amp, loved it!)
Roland JC120 (ditto...)
Koch KB2500 (ditto...)
Fender Blackface Twin Reverb (yeah... ditto!)
Peavey series 400 bass head (no kidding, very cool and great sounding amps!)
No room left however, and not about to start losing my current amps.
Andy.

Re: What other amps
Hiwatt DR103. Put some offers for one, but that didn't work out. Funny enough, the owner was a bass player....
Genz benz black pearl. Beautiful straight up rock amp. Can do 7/15/30w, and has a 5 position voicing switch. On my permanent ebay watch list. Again, I've made offers for a couple, but that didn't work out.
Orange OR50. I do like the simplicity of single channel amps. I'd like tobhavr a go at that one for sure!
Fender deluxe reverb ri. Never tried the original, but the reissue is wonderful enough.

Re: What other amps
Sorry to hear it. If you ever got past that and tried one you'd find a very good amp in there. Two separate EQs, a four and a six band, which you can use either separately or blend to taste. Some genuinely great sounds to be had out of it. Had plenty of time to explore the possibilities as there was one lying around the studio where I lived for years and I loved it. If I ever came across one in good nick I'd grab it, simple as that.
Maybe not as pretty as Katy P. though, grant you that...

Re: What other amps
Orange DD50 and TV50
Engl Retro Tube
Wizard Modern Classic
Bad Cat Hot Cat
Top Hat, Dr. Z, Tone King - all of them! Especially the Top Hat Emplexeador and Tone King Royalist and Falcon Deluxe
Current line of a Matamp
Fryette Pittbull
Fuchs and Carr - don't know much about their individual models
Soldano SLO
Spawn Quick Rod
Friedman Dirty Shirley - I did get a chance to try a BE100, and I was greatly underwhelmed. It seemed noisy, compressed, and not toothy enough. I had considered buying one until I tried it, then ordered the Orange OR100 instead. Maybe there was something wrong with the one I tried, maybe the Dirty Shirley is better.

Re: What other amps
The only amps that really pique my curiosity are Friedman amps. I'd love to try the BE100 or Small Box 50. Once I pay off my Dual Dark 50 I may have to snag one
Dual Dark 50, Friedman Smallbox, '78 Twin Reverb, PPC412A, PPC212C

I've been wanting to try a Peavey Supreme lately. Not sure why.
