cabling strategy - OR100
I've been playing an OR100 for a couple of years now - *love* it. As as practical matter, I haven't used the footswitches much, although I would like to -- among the three switches, the effects loop, and the input, I'd be running 6 cables between the pedal board and the amp, which seems excessive. Certainly the problem is not unique to the OR100, but having three footswitches seems unusual (but not unwelcome!). I should say I'd much rather have these standard 1/4 in jacks than have something proprietary.
I've been sitting around thinking of soldering up all kinds of crazy contraptions using a 7 pin tube microphone XLR cable. I actually tried a proof of concept with a Category 6 computer network cable, but got way too much noise.
Anyway, before I hurt myself, I thought it would be good idea to check in with the community to see what other folks are doing -- anyone got this licked?

Re: cabling strategy - OR100
I haven't gotten this far yet with mine, but here's how I feel like I would do it. I would keep the normal input cable standard. The effects loop can be done with a quality stereo bundled cable. The three footswitches can be wired with three plugs at each end of a four-conductor mic cable. This would require some soldering skill. I wouldn't try to bundle all six cable runs together.

Or simply use cable ties.
Make sure you get the right length, and tie it all up.

I'm convinced that cable ties can solve most of the worlds problems. I buy them by the hundred and go through them pretty quick.

I know!!! And the big plus with them is that if one of the 5 fxloop / footswitch cable fails, it can easily be replaced.

Re: cabling strategy - OR100
Of course, you could avoid the effects loop altogether and just run the pedals into the front of the amp - two less cables...
Re: cabling strategy - OR100
Which is what I'm doing now - no big advantage to using the loop? Truth be told, even though I've been playing for 30 years, I've only been using any effects for about 3 years - just trying to get into the 21st century.bclaire wrote:Of course, you could avoid the effects loop altogether and just run the pedals into the front of the amp - two less cables...
Love the suggestions - a little different, but on the same topic, does Orange or anyone else make a three position selector switch pedal, or has anyone tried fabbing up one?
Re: cabling strategy - OR100
No, they don't though we want them to. The OR100, RVMklll and TV series amps would definitely like a three knob footswitch.

Check out Switch Doctor's website:
http://www.switchdoctorswitches.com/ind ... gory_id=26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The switch they make for the OR100 is one cable with three 1/4 jack ends. Thats what I would get if I had an OR100, sorry, the Orange footswitches are nice, but I think they are overpriced and a bit too big.

Re: cabling strategy - OR100
I have both the Orange and the switchdoctor version. The Orange is built really well, but a total pain to wire up 3 cables. The switchdoctor is solid enough and works well....though I have heard the cosmetics fade/peel with time, and I could imagine that happening (unlike the orange). No matter, it is way easier.
Re: cabling strategy - OR100
I ordered some 5 pin XLR jacks and plugs, thinking I'd wire something up with quad microphone cable and some project boxes, but that switchdoctor thing looks a little easier -- 20 feet is long enough for the cable, I think. Also, I have a spare 20' stereo (TRS) cable and some y adapters to try out for the effects loop. Add in a few cable ties and I'll be groovy - Thanks!!!

Re: cabling strategy - OR100
I use a Pedalsnake with my Dual Dark.
Output from wireless to amp
Fx loop send
FX loop return
Attenuator engage/Bypass
Channel A/B
I use the dual mono ends for the FX loop and footswitches meaning I'm only using 3 of the 4 channels on the Pedalsnake.

Re: cabling strategy - OR100
I was always curious about that pedalsnake, seems like a great solution!
In addition to the switchdoctor, I am going to send that cable along with 3 instrument cables (amp input and fx loop) through this sleeve:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SQ ... ge_o02_s00" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have this sleeve set up on my midi board and decided to make a 2nd board for the OR100. I hope to have this hooked up later today!

You can make your own easily, all the bits are on eBay.crankyrayhanky wrote:I was always curious about that pedalsnake, seems like a great solution!
Re: cabling strategy - OR100
I got the switchdoctor switch - works great! That pedalsnake looks like what I was imagining, but I bet it would take me forever to get it working just right. I could see noise (I did see noise when I tried Category 6) and crosstalk being an issue for me. Might check that out at some point - looks very cool.
