OD Pedal for Rockerverb MKII + Metal?
Hey guys,
I was hoping someone could give me some advice in regards to which overdrive pedal to use with my Rockerverb MK II in order to get the metal tone I'm after. I'm determined to get the tone I'm after since I love this amp to bits and the tonal characteristics as a whole, but I'm just not getting the tightness and clarity from it that I need in regard to the bass strings/palm muted chugs etc. Gain isn't necessarily a problem although I do find myself lacking in sustain up at the higher frets? Not sure why exactly.
I started off with a regular TS-9 and moved on to the Keeley Baked Mod version. Both of these altered my tone a little too much for my liking (particularly treble wise and made the tone sound thin) and the Keeley was a bit too powerful in all honesty. Gain is not really a problem, but obviously the further I push the dial the more loose and less defined the tone becomes. I messed around with the settings a whole lot and ended up using what most sites recommended (drive at 0 and volume at 10). While this almost did the trick it still wasn't quite right
I did search the web the and this forum and saw that the Fulltone OCD was recommended and was wondering if anyone had an experience with my amp and/or this pedal. I had my power section switched from EL34's to 6550's at it's last service and while I like the aggressiveness it added to my tone, I found they made the amp sound quite bland, and I do miss the warmth from the EL34's which I'll probably be switching back when the next service is due. Pickup wise I run guitars equipped with Bareknuckle Nailbombs, Seymour DuncanJB/59's and EMG's so in terms of pickups I think I've pretty much covered all I can in trying to get the tone right (so far the EMG's get the closest but I'm not a huge fan of active tones). I also play on 56-11 gauge on 25.5 scale length guitars so I don't think there's anything else I can do to help there either. I even sold my PPC212OB and bought a closed back to see if that would help but I'm not convinced it did!
Sorry for the long winded post, but I just wanted to make clear all the things I've tried in order to give a clearer understanding in what I'm trying to achieve. This is literally my last ditch attempt before I give up and buy a 6505!!! (I'll still be keeping the Rockerverb though!)

a graphic EQ pedal, cut some lows and slightly boost high mids especially in the 1-2k range
Re: OD Pedal for Rockerverb MKII + Metal?
Of course, why didn't I think of that!
Any recommendations?

The OCD is a good pedal but unfortunately the Rv50 does not work well in general with Od pedals - in use these types of pedals sound a bit 'flabby' (I may of made that word up but they soundloose with little definition and tightness)

Cheers guys, I had a shed load of Andertons points from over the years so I ordered the GE-7 for £30!
I hope it does the trick, I really love this thing!

Otherwise, some people have been using the maxon Od808 with low gain settings and claimed it tightened it all quite nicely.

+1 on the Maxon OD808. All Orange RV metalheads have one.

I remember you saying the difference was huge. Not changing values, was it, just changing components quality?Jondog wrote:Try it stock, if it works good, do the mod.Spaceboy1 wrote:you don't need a mod, try it stock first

It's a great mod. Stock there is hiss the mod removes all the hiss and improves the bypass buffer making it very transpearent.Les Paul Lover wrote:I remember you saying the difference was huge. Pretty sure Johnny Radtke from Filter uses an OD808 with his amps as well to get that tighter pre-amp hit.Bensnake wrote:+1 on the Maxon OD808. All Orange RV metalheads have one.
