What pedal am I looking for?

What pedal am I looking for?
I have a 1959 model Marshall stack (well, half...a YJM, which is the same but better). I just got and MXR fuzz which is perfect, and all my other pedals are fine. But for one...
I need to have a solid raging hard rock/metal distortion pedal that goes "KeeeeRAAAAAAANG!!!!". Think really bassy and searing, something like Nuno Bettencourt's sound on Pornograffiti, or just '80s-'90s stuff like Satriani on Surfing...you know, just that over the top, punchy, screaming, scooped sound. I tried the Saturator from vox for example ...crap! Too much middle, too nasal. The boss distortions were in the ballpark but brittle, my Okko diablo is great, but again not enough punch. I'm trying to counteract the spongeyness of the 1959 and make it tight as hell.

Satrini used a DS-1, didn't he? Maybe that's what you're missing?

Did you try the Blackstar HT series? I owned a HT-Blackfire (Gus G sig.) and it was the fattest, most saturated distortion pedal I've ever played. Two channels, full EQ, ISF control, 12AX7 valve and built like a bulldozer. Very much metal but some crunch in there as well.

Re: What pedal am I looking for?
I second the modded DS-1...or a whiteface rat would rip that marshall up hard.
If you like MXR, which I do, perhaps a zakk wylde overdrive would hit the spot. I know you don't like signature models, but your fuzz has slash on it, so why not? I think they are good pedals anyway.

Yeah, I'm thinking baout taking a screwdriver and scratching that top hat off the pedal . It just happens to be the best sounding fuzz I've heard, as well as an analog octave that sounds sick. Also, Slash actuaslly only uses it for about 15 seconds in Paradise City, so it's not really his sound at all (thank god, I hate the idea of being a clone). I'm gonna order a bunch of different gain pedals and deicde which sounds best. One that I have on order is the AMT SS-20 which just sounds amazing if you havent heard it:ironlung40 wrote:I second the modded DS-1...or a whiteface rat would rip that marshall up hard.

At about 2:40 the crunch and lead stuff starts...really impressive.

Those Blackstar pedals are fantastic for what you're looking for and I can envisage them working really well with your Marshall.

Have you tried a Skreddy Screwdriver? Simply one of the most versatile and aggressive straight distortion pedals I've used. Ballsy, tight, and bright.

So i got the pedal (AMT SS 20)......two words:
COMPLETE SH!T.
So now I need to rethink this. So frustrating.

Re: What pedal am I looking for?
I'm re-submitting my vote for modded DS-1. Cheap pedal, cheap to mod, sounds amazing. I suggested the Wampler Triple Wreck earlier
Scratch the Triple Wreck. I now have it and side by side with my modded DS-1, the DS-1 kicks it's ass. Not bad for a pedal I bought used for $25 and put less than $10 worth of parts in. I did the mod myself, the Ultra Seeing Eye mod. Not sure if I might of instaled a wrong value but the input volume causes a bit of extra clipping on the front end of a note when the gain is maxed which actually sounds amazing, like the note is....exploding out,(best I can describe it ). If I throw an overdrive into it, I get a real heavy, octavey big muffx2 type of sound.Jondog wrote:keeley modded DS-1 or Wampler Triple Wreck.

I think you should get the EMMA ReezaFRATzitz II - It's goes from British to American, from 0 to 100 in 2 seconds and it retains ALL the bass in your signal, while "#¤"#%! your face off! It also does low gain rock tones.

Re: What pedal am I looking for?
After reading the comments and remember being in the middle of the same conversations many times, and so subjective. A pedal that I have become very fond of is the Ibanez (Red) Tube King, has a 12AX7 which can be changed that gets normal DC high voltage for which provides a genuine tube-like distortion and can also grind when adjusted.
