NGD - for bird lovers
Well, I did it again. This time it's a new Gibson Firebird in Vintage Sunburst. Last time I bought a new Gibson it was 6 years ago, when I got my Les Paul. It's a good feeling
I got to play it for 1 and a half hours today and I must say that it is the most classic rock guitar I have. Man, the Angus Young tones are spot on and those mini humbuckers do anything from sparkling, yet not thin, cleans to roaring hard rock crunch. It covers high gain as well, but I feel it does best in moderate gain, plexi-style crunch.
Oh, and then come the looks. Not sure what you guys think about Firebirds, but to me they are gorgeous. And quite comfortable too, very well balanced, with rounded edges on the body. I have a very good feeling about it. The price was pretty good, but at this price range Gibson missed a few spots. The sanding is not perfect where the neck joins the wings and also on the headstock front. Only visible in direct lighting, so nothing too upsetting, but still there. I guess this is a reason why Gibson decided to up their prices for the 2015 range (I saw increases up to 20%) - hope they will address these issues.
Here's some pictures.

Congrats on a very beautiful guitar! Nice Christmas gift for sure. Never owned a Firebird myself but this model is definitely on my wish list. Enjoy!

Now that is blinking beautiful! Enjoy!!!
Re: NGD - for bird lovers
I love the 'Birds! I always found they were heavy in the headstock for the classic "dive" like an SG. Still, pretty sweet guitar. Congratulations!
Lost in the spacey reverb of the Rockerverb.......SOMEBODY GET ME OUTTA HERE!!
Re: NGD - for bird lovers
Since 2010 (I believe) they ditched the heavy banjo tuners in favour of some cool, light Steinberger gearless tuners. They feel nice, although it takes a while to get used with the reversed headstock - the most distant tuner is for the low E. I still reach out for the wrong tunerGtr_Pkr wrote:I love the 'Birds! I'm jealous man!!
This guitar is next on my "one day I'll buy guitars again" list.
Mini humbucker are to me the perfect match for those big guitars.

Oh, no! Thanks God for that! I find that mighty useless and it messes up the vibe of the guitar.Bensnake wrote:BTW; does it have that e-tune thing?

Always had a deep love for the Firebirds. Didn't even know they were still making them in this configuration anymore. Super hot!
Here is a photo of my Firebird V from 1963. Very similar, expect for the huge tailpiece. I love how it plays and sounds, but it rarely gets used since I've been so in love with aluminum guitars recently.
