5 feet of fancy cord between your amp and the wall isn't going to change the several hundred meters of bare bones copper wire running through your house.

Actually....it's safer depending on the amperage. Extension cords have a amperage rating. Commonly not a problem though.

Sure. Yet I can't help but notice that "safety" is not mentioned once in that Mercury Magnetics article. Tone is, and this cord isn't going to change a damn thing.

My kettle's power chord got a nick in it recently, and I was hoping to upgrade to the Mercury Magnetic one in the hope of making more toneful teas and coffees.

I'm going to be really disappointed if that isn't the case now. :(

For what it's worth, the current rating on a piece of wire is usually based on the temperature at which the insulation will melt. They de-rate that back to a safe point so you can't really come close to melting it, of course. The main concern is obviously avoiding short circuit and fire.

I've got a nice long extension cable which looks like that. Even the (UK) plugs are orange. No leaving that behind after the gig!!!

If my wall power cord doesn't match my amps corner hardware it throws my gig mojo off. I had to borrow a dark, dark brown power cable once... Worst gig I've ever played.

That sound truly horrid. I'm really sorry you had to suffer that. :(

Although it's bullshit, having an Orange power cable would be cool... after all, I spent extra money to get an Orange speaker cable and white coiled instrument cable to match the looks of my amp, LOL. I also have the Orange branded cables too but honestly they are kind of doo-doo, as much as love the brand. The MM power cords are not really that expensive.

I have one of these for my Orange AD200. Does it change the tone in any way... no. However, the quality of the cable and ends is very nice and heavy duty. Certainly will last a lifetime. Also nice to see which cable is yours on a dark stage. when you're unplugging stuff.

If you're someone that obsessive over using quality instrument cables, patch cables, etc... it only makes sense to go the extra mile for one of these too.
