I got a new AD30HTC last week and did one gig at a small-ish club with no mics on our amps. The sound of the AD30TC is superb, but I had the master volume on "10" and could've used a little more volume and punch.

I have a couple questions anout the AD140TC. I know lots of big amps like the volume knob at at least 9:00 before things start sounding right. With a 100 watt marshall or simlar amp, this is the ideal volume for me. The ADHTC probably hits this volume, but doesn't have the punchiness a more powerful amp can give.

I'm using a 4x12 with greenbacks in it. Now, what are your opinions?

Should I get a hold of a cab with more efficient speakers like Vintage 30's? Will that help get the most out of the AD30TC's limited power? Will that get me into a louder more punchy sound? Or should I go with an AD140TC? I also need to keep in mind that I will be miked 99.9% of the time, so 30 watts might be just right.

I'm leaning toward the AD140HTC mainly for the punchiness of the power section, but will it sound good at about the same level as the AD30HTC on "10"? Thanks.

V30's will help for sure...

but what is your band's lineup? That amp should be plenty loud enough I would think- any louder and you're hurting your own hearing and your audience's and I wonder if anyone can hear the vocals out front....

the vintage 30's will make the ad-30 series amps blistering loud.
if you want maximum volume with incredible tone, use the celestion blue alnico's. if you want more punch and dynamic response try a solid state rectifier. this will increasethe amps headroom a bit.

Hi Justin
<
I use an AD-30H with a new ORANGE 4x12" slope cabinet(Signature Model, brandnew!) and I can tell you that I played a lot of gigs without microphone in front of the amp now and this damned thing is fu.... loud! and I used the low input! - okay- I use a BOSS GT-5 as soundmachine, have the Gain on 9:00 and the Master at 12:00 and an amazing Sound has really blowing me away !!!!
Imagine, when I would use the Hi-Gain Input...! The combination with
4 Celestion-Vintage's in the 16 Ohm Socket of the AD-30H is simply the best(for me!)I've ever heard 'til now and belive me, I tried out a lot of other Amps (Mesa, Fender Soldano, Pearce etc.)in my Time as professional Guitarist ! So try out an ORANGE Cabinet on Stage and decide then......! You will be surprised !

Thanks for the replies!

I'm going to stick it out with the AD30HTC for now and track down a cab (hopefully Orange) with the Vintage 30's. That should get me into the volume I need.

About that SS rectifier, is that OK to use in the AD30HTC? Will it put too much voltage to the tubes? i really want to know about this...
