custom shop ad5 no 20 of 64

Post by Mrjones2004x » Tue Nov 25, 2014 11:15 pm

Someone in my town has a custom shop ad5 signed by Ade no 20 of 64 and I was wanting to ask what you think it would be worth? Interested in it but as its limited I wondered how much they are worth compared to a regular one.

Here's 2 pics, I know not great but more wanting to know about price and what to offer without offending or even if I could afford lol.

Or any info you could supply would help.

Thanks guys.

It's worth almost nothing. Please give me your friends name and phone number so I can tell him in person...

Tommy Tutone didn't go over well in Europe now that I think about it.

I would see if you can find an example of a handwired AD15 for sale (or sold) as a point of reference since the AD5 would always be worth a bit less.

Rare and limited, yes. But then again, it's only a little 5 watt bedroom amp. I wouldn't personally pay more than $500, just for what it is.

Other than the original prototype, there are no hand wired AD15s.

They used to show up on eBay occasionally but never sold because they were way over priced. I seem to recall they were asking around $1600 or so.

I didn't know they existed!!!!

Well, I bought my AD5 for £130 and sold it for £150.
So that's a starting point, I'd say it's prbably worth 25% to 30% more than that. I'd say £160 to £200.

But that's what I'd pay for it, i'm a cheapskate and have missed on out on many a good deal trying to offer too low and being outbid.... ;)

Somebody might make an offer up to £250, but the recent handwired Matamp spirit sold new for around £350 ish iirc. They were a similar 4 or 5w 8" speaker type of amp.

FWIW, the AD5 is perfect for classic rock, has a great AC DC or led zep crunch and absolutely lovely bright clean. to get nice cleans at loud volume (it has next to no headroom) you just need to roll off your volume.
Great little wee amp.
