OR50 as clean platform?

OR50 as clean platform?
I'm very curious how the OR50 with the master couple disengaged would sound as a clean platform for fuzz, primarily Muff-styled. Has anybody experimented with this much? A full clean isn't really necessary so some grit as the volume is cranked is actually preferred with some amps and fuzzes.

I've been running mine like that for the last couple years. Works great . As with all Oranges it seems some pedals work better than others. Probably true with all amps I guess .

I like mine better as a clean platform than using its natural overdrive. I have used a big muff with it and didn't care too much for it but I have never really got along with that amp.

not really, sounds flat to me and the eq has little effect over the tone. im considering a complete retube one day before I decide to sell it. maybe that will help or perhaps it just isn't for me.

Scott Holiday from Rival Sons uses this amp. He has a wide variety of fuzz pedals and gets great sounds out of it.
Re: OR50 as clean platform?
not familiar with them but ill check them out
I'm debating on getting an or50 as a base for fuzz or instead waiting for a good fender bassman

I know I will be hated on here for sacrilege but I got a vintage fender super reverb and it eats the or50 tonally.

I don't think anyone will hate you for your opinion. Tonal preferences are unique and subjective. Those two amps do totally different things and have very little similarity. I have an OR50 and a 1968 Bassman. I never use the Bassman. It has tons of low end and is good at what it does, but I never found a pedal that could give it a good enough distorted tone at reasonable volumes. I think that a clean pedal platform with a bunch of dirt pedals is totally inadequate and overcomplicated compared to an amp that sounds great all by itself. I have found the OR50 to be the exact amp I was looking for, even while another amp is apparently eating it.davebolden44 wrote:I know I will be hated on here for sacrilege but I got a vintage fender super reverb and it eats the or50 tonally.
