Cab experience

Post by S27NJH » Tue Nov 11, 2014 12:02 am

Hi all, I'm probably telling something you all know now but here goes.
I went to rehearsal tonight and there happened to be a marshall 1960 4x12 cab there. I thought what the hell and plugged my TH30 into it. After playing for an hour I stopped, thinking this sounds a bit naff. Plugged in my PPC212OB and, my god, what a difference. Just goes to show how good orange cabs are in comparison. Yes, I know the marshall has G12T speakers in it but it just sounded crap.
Again, something I'm sure you all already know but I thought I'd share

I think as a general rule it's best to use the Cab that goes with the amp, it's not just a visual thing but the cab will have been designed to sound good with the head of the same brand.
But yes the 2x12 Ob cab is a good sounding cab... I really like the sound of mine

That's why it sounded crap. The G12T-75 just can't put out the big low mids of the Orange sound at all. Made my OR120 sound gutless, ill in fact.

They are okay with Marshalls but about the worst choice ever for Oranges (IMO).

I had the same experience with that speaker.

I didn't plugged the orange through it as it was in my Marshall DSL combo, but plugged the combo in my Orance PPC212 cab was like night and day.

I think the 1960 cab by itself is a decent cab enough, just the speakers want changing really - for any amp IMO.

Agreed.
Old 1960 cabs are really good. Put in the speakers the head likes and this a is a cheap and very good cab.
Honestly I won't put big money in an Orange 4X12. (well if it's cheap or free, I'll take it ... )
