Another trade offer (GUILD NIGHTBIRD) - HELP

Post by enricoromanielo » Fri Aug 01, 2014 5:45 pm

Hi guys, sorry to bother you again with this...

So, I was trying to sell some of my stuff (the Egnater Rebel 20 and a Gibson Les Paul Standard DC). I traded the Egnater for a Reeves (awesome deal), and got another trade offer for my Les Paul Standard (not the DC, a "normal" 2012 Honeyburst).

The guy is offering me a Guild Nightbird 1989. The guitar is beautiful, and for what I've read, it is rare. He is willing to throw a Lovepedal Les Lius for me as well.

I know I can always buy a Standard sometime, and it would be difficult to come accross this Guild any time soon. My problem is that the guitar has some modifications into it (pickups were changed and a Roland system was installed). He told me that the job was done by Sammy Sanches, who took excelent care of the guitar, and no major structural modifications were made. But one can never know for certain.

What do you guys think?? I am almost pulling the trigger on this, just wanna check with you guys before, since you have always helped me.

Cheers!

I'm not a big fan of the roland system, but if you'll use that weird guitar synth, they go for upwards of 300usd on the used market. Nice pedal, too. They are getting rare and I love guild instruments, but they certainly aren't exceptionally rare. I'd base my decision on the roland system.

Actually, the guy told me that there is only the space for the Roland System... If I ever want to use it, it is there...

I wouldn't. Rare, maybe, but not exactly sought after.

This is actually a big concern... The guy has been trying to sell it for a litlle while now, and I am preety sure tha the modifications he did really compromise the guitar's value (there are actually drilling holes on the body).

That´s funny, cause all the (few) comments I found about the guitar online praise its quality and go on and on about how well it is built and everything...

My impression too was of high quality and great sounds. Never played one though so just hearsay really.

Maybe Wondergloo was talking Mikey Jacksun 'BAD'??? :?

I think your Les Paul is worth more. If it was a Guild Nightingale, different story.

Any mod beyond 50s wiring or treble bleed devalues s guitar and makes it harder to sell. Pick up swap are armless enough, but still often knock a little off.

I'd say pass. Sounds like a losing trade for you.

To clarify, I'm sure they are well intoned, well built, fine playing guitars. I just find the sound a tad thin from that particular model.

Look at it this "I'll trade you my guitar that is old, was nice at one time until I drilled holes in it for a system no one uses and it's not worth anything at the moment because no one wants to buy it, for your guitar that I can turn around and sell tomorrow." If he cant get rod of it, you can't either. Hes looking for a sucker.

I wouldn't do it. Drilled holes for something that isn't even there is a no for me.

Worst trade ever.

Don't do it - you will regret it probably sooner rather than later.
