Just promised my girlfriend no new gear for a year

So in a fit of semi drunken defenciveness, I just promised my very long term girlfriend that I won't by any new gear (bar a tremolo pedal) for the next 12 months.

So to document this I took photos of my current rig and will update this thread in a year to compare
Place your bets, gentleman.

Personally I hope I win as curing gas could be a good thing

Mainly because my wife's a musician too and she'd probably keep coming home with shiny new things anyway, just to taunt me.

Oh I know it'll bite me in the arse. As long as Orange don't release a Custom Shop Rocker 30, I may just survive

The thing is she is a musician as well however she has owned the same violin since she was 10. It was only a few months ago we found out it is now worth over $6,000. I tried to use that to my defense but she saw through it

I really shouldn't talk, I've been placed on close watch, even forced to cancel my credit card to prevent online purchases. Good thing I have a back up....

The thing is all the gear I've bought over the past few years was mostly funded by selling other gear and work I do on the side outside of our budget, apparently thats not my money

What would you do with it? New furniture, or new gear?

What the hell were you thinking? (I guess you did say you had been drinking). Do you want to get rid of this woman? You are going to have to one of two things. You will have to openly break your promise...or...go behind her back and buy new gear....which she will inevitably discover (making things even worse). This just goes to show...never drive OR have serious conversations with your wife/girlfriend when you've been drinking. It can only lead to disaster.

I just don't understand what kind of person would put that kind of restriction on someone they "love."

But I guess for some love is just another word for control or ownership.

This one I know too well.....when staring my band I had to take from my personal savings from a fund left too me by my mother.....but all the money that is now generated from my "hobby" is the households. Because the 2 hours of guitar joy after rigging, driving and putting up with bandmembers and drunk people for 6 hours is really all the reward I need?!?!?

I should point out that it wasn't a restriction put on me by her but more of an action stated by me that I'm not addicted to buying gear and can go a year without buying more.

If I'd let myself go, there's plenty stuff I'd love to buy. None of it I really need. A little restraint doesn't mean being neutered.

It's not like the OP hasnt got plenty good gear already!
